ORDINANCE NO. ~/m~
AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO STREETS AND HOUSE
NUMBERING AND AMENDING SECTIONS 12.16.040
AND 12.16.050 OF THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL
CODE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
~ Section 12.16.040 of the Port Townsend Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
12.16.040 Numberin~ in each block. The buildings in each
block shall be numbered consecutively from the initial
number of such block, and each main entrance door on all the
streets within the district shall be entitled to a number
and vacant land or lots between buildings fronting on such
streets shall be entitled to one number for every ten feet
or fraction thereof, and as to land lying in areas where no
platted streets exist, the same rule shall apply as if the
platted streets in the city were extended into such
unplatted area. A block as used in this chapter shall
consist of two half-blocks, one on each side of the street.
House numbers for buildings on corner or through lots shall
be numbered on the street which affords the .principal means
of access to the property,

~ Section 12.16.050 of the Port Townsend Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
12.16.050 Placement of numbers on house. The figures used
in numbering the houses shall be made of
durable material which is colored to contrast sharply with
the back~round and shall be at least ((three)) five inches
high, and such numbers shall be placed in a conspicuous
place ((above)) n~l the door so that the same may be easily
seen from the street. If the figures cannot be easily seen
from the street, a second set of figures, which shall be at
least three inches high. shall be placed on a Dost or
mailbox at the ~roDertv line adjacent to the main entrance
on .the street.
~ Severabilitv. In the event any one or more of the
provisions of this ordinance shall for any reason be held to be
invalid, such invalidity shall not affect or invalidate any other
provision of this ordinance, but this ordinance shall be
construed and enforced as if such invalid provision had not been
contained therein; provided, that any provision which shall for
any reason be held by reason of its extent to be invalid shall be
deemed to be in effect to the extent permitted by law.
