LIBRARY BOARD MEETING :JUNE/1979
THE LAST MONTH'S MINUTES WERE READ AND APIROV'ED.ATTENDING BOARD MEMBERS:
BUB YANDELL,ELEANOR NELSON,JESSIE HARMS AND CONRAD SCHWENKE.GUEST DIANE ABSHIRE WAS PRESENT
AND PRESENTED HER COUNTER -UFFER OF ETCHED GLASS FUR LIBRARY WINDOWS AS UPr OSED TO PHYLISS
HOPECK'S BID TO DESIGN STAINED GLASS WINDOWS.THE LATTER BID WOULD BE CONTRACTED FOR THROUGH
A GRANT WHICH WOULD NOT OBLIGATE THE LIBRARY FINANCIALLIMANE ABSHIRE'S CONTRACT WITH THE
LIBRARY WOULD INVOLVE LIBRARY EXFENDITURE.WHILE SHARING PICTURES OF HER WORK MISS ABSHIRE
WHO IS A HIGH - SCHOOL STUDENT TOLD US SOMETHING ABOUT THE PRUCEEDURES WHICH INVOLVE SAND -
BLASTING.HER PRESENTATION WAS EXCELLLENT AND THE DESIGNS ARE ORIGINAL.SHE MAINTAINED THAT
THE COST OF ETCHED GLASS IS LESS THAN STAINED WINDuWS(ABOUT t 100.00 PSX WINDOW OR ONE
HALF IF THE URIGAAL GLASS WERE VAILABLE.THE BOARD THANKED DIXXE AND PROMISED TO LET HER
KNOB►. JESSIE HARMS RAISED THE QUESTION OF THE VALIDITY OF USING TAX,- rAYER'S FUNDS FUR
SUCH A ?URPOSE.IT WAS POINTED OUT THAT A BOARD MEMBER'S RESPONSIBILITY IS TO A CITY
TAX -PAYER AND NOT TO FEDERAL FUNDS,WHICH ARE SET ASIDE YCK THIS PURPOSE. THE QUESTION
HAS BEEN TABLED FOX FURTHER DISCUSSION.
THERE WAS NO CORRESPONDENCE REPORTED. BEVERLYPRESENTED THE LIBRARIAN'S RE-
PORT.FRIENDS WILL PUT CASTORS ON BOOK- SHELVES SO THAT THEY CAN BE MOVED EASILY. PAM,BETH
AND JU- HANNAH ATTENDED THE STORY-TELLING CONFERENCE WHICH THEY REPORTED WAS VERY GOOD,
A FUTURE LIBRARY PROGRAM COMING UP REGARDS THE CHOICES IN CHILD.- BuATH.THERE WILL BE A
PANEL DISCUSSION INVOLVING A DOCTUR,A MID -WIFE AND A HOME BIxTH PERSON.
THL GROUNDS MAINTAINANCE QUESTION WAS RAISED BY JESSIE. BAYSHORE IS
A CURRENT POSSIBILTY.CONRAD SUGGESTED THAT THN CONTACT BE MADE SOON TO COVER THE
SUMMER SEASON. MEMBERS SIGNED VOUCHERS.BEV MENTIONED IN CLOSING THAT THE HIGH- SCHOOL
AREA IS NOO BEING USED AND A STEREO MADE AVAILABLE.SHE ALSO MENTIONED A RE- 8VALUATION
OF THE CURRENT BUDGET IN LIEU OF A POSSIBLE RAISE FOR THE LIBRARY STAFF. THE MEETING
THEN ADJOUxNED.
