Fort Townsend Library Board
Chairwoman Jessie Harms called the meeting to order. Bev Lamb gave the
librarian's report. It was ststed that the King Tut program was very well
received and that over 100 persons attended.
Robert Carter, the library's new page has been with the library for over
a month and is working out well. He is paid out of the library's budget.
We have received donated books from the North Olympic Library System.
The library is seeking an alternative to the current persons responsible for the
library's landscaping and tending of the grounds. They have been doing
an inadequate job. It has been suggested that Bayshore might be interested
in submitting a bid for the job. They are also expected to submit a bid for the
restoration of the ramp to the rear of the library.
The library board will make a trip to Centralia on July 19th. They will visit
an old Carnegie Library that was remod.led to suit community needs. A
discussion was initiated regarding the remodeling of the
plant. T. Goldsmith suggested opening up the donstairs psent lib room
to increase the space feasability of the present building. Jessie Harms
asked how that would affect the present use of the downstairs area for other
needs, such as meetings. Eleanor Nelson suggested the use of moveable
screens and flexible use of the downstairs area. Frank Kilham suggested use o
of the board room for smaller meetings.
Beverly suggested that we look at alternatives to a new buildin g
things mentioned were renovation of the pre Gent buildin g or expansion. S °me
Another woossibility discussed is the use of annex space in another erlocati.on.
She also discussed the alternative of a k!O sk situated in a central location.
New business: There was some discussion regarding the vacated post of
board member Frank Kilham who has served the Library Board with a spirit of
dedication over a period of years. i'iL-. Kilham's term as Board member expires
in Sept. It was dedided that the Board remain impartial and not submit a
formal recommendation to the liayor as to who his replacement might be.
