Special Board Meeting - -re Disposal of old library check -out desk
Present -- Goldsmith, Yandell, Ki]ham, Nelson
Lamb, Bill DeWitt, Councilwoman Smith
Chairman Goldsmith called the meeting to discuss the disposal by bid
of the old library check -out desk. The desk had been declared surplus
at the regular board meeting on Nov. 30 and was advertised as surplus property
available for bids in two subsequent Leaders. Bids were opened in the
library at 1Os00 December 9, hours in which the library is not open
for business. Present at the bid opening were Goldsmith, Lamb and Hazel
Lewis. As the fron door was not unlocked during the procedure, a question was
raised as to the legality of the bid opening and City Attorney Glenn Abraham
advised that the entire process be redone.
Kilham moved that the Board again put the desk up for bids, Yandell seconded.
Councilwoman Smith discussed the need for 'appearance of fairness' in
public board dealings and urged that the board reconsider disposing of the
desk in the interests of historical preservation. She also mentioned that the
Museum might wish to reconsider its rejection of the board's offer of
the desk.
• Previous question was called and the board members present voted unanimously
to resubmit the desk for bids. Bids will be accepted until 5 :00 Wednesday
December 28 and will be opened at 7:30 at the regular board meeting on
the same day. The board will reserve the right to reject any and all bids.
