Brought before the members for discussion was letter signed
by President Jefferson. This letter, or manifesto, is written to
Captain Merriweather Lewis, rind is a list of supplies to be obtain-
ed by him, for his exposition to the Northwest. The letter has been
in the library for many years. It was resolved by the members that
Pairs Wallin write to the Library of Congress, Wash. D.C. to inquire
as to this letter being an original. Also resolved that a Curator
(from State Library) be asked to come to fort Townsend and authen-
ticate the signature on the letter.
Mrs Wallin reported that an attempt had been made to break into the
library through the basement door in the rear of tli.e building.
Moved by Dr. Chuljian that a light be placed at the rear of the
building as a precautionary measure. Motion carreid.
Due to new books coming in and being accessioned, also due to
several gifts from library users, shelving is growing very limited.
Mr Potthoff stated he would look into having-.; the class in Shop at
the High School build three or a possible four cabinets for shel-
ving space.
ekMembers also asked Mrs Wallin to check with Bob Cook :Electric,to
inquire about an automatic light, installed in the library.
