Present: Laurie Stewart, Cheryl Van Dyke, Sue Sidle, Beverly Lamb
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
Librarian's Report:
The summer reading activities for children have started, public
response has been enthusiastic.
The Friends of the Library have donated money to fix up a
staff /work area and begin a program of signing for the library.
The LSCA grants submitted by the PTL were not funded but should be
re- worked and resubmitted.
The ramp needs painting. Laurie will investigate getting this
done.
Reports:
Budget committee -- Cheryl reports that the City Council is still
working on details of budget requests and capital projects. Janis
Hunt has been in contact with "Forward Thrust" representatives and it
is likely the city will try for a similar comprehensive program. The
Council wants the Board to investigate all options, including a new
building in a new location. The Board is committed to the provision
of quality service whether this is best accomplished from a renovated
facility or a new one.
Old Business:
Policy revision - -Bev has collected policies from a number of different
libraries and will present suggested revisions at future meetings,
beginning with the personnel policies.
Vacation pay - -The Council is still working on revising the ordinance
to allow non -union employees to be compensated for vacation at the
same rate as union employees. Hella will not be eligible for pay
under this new schedule as it can not be approved retroactively.
New Business:
Library /learning resources -- General discussion of John Shirk's project
and preliminary findings re position of library as community
educational resource. Suggestions were offered as to how we can more
actively promote our resources and activities throughout the community
e.g. donations of appropriate books from various businesses, book
selection help from same, quarterly 'public hearing' type library
board meetings inviting comment, suggestions, complaints from
community.
Cooperative use agreement - -The board approved a cooperative use
agreement between Jefferson County Library, North Olympic Library
System, and the Port Townsend Library. Bev will obtain the original
copy and Cheryl will sign it.
Meeting adjourned 8:58 p.m.
