MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
September 28, 1987
The regulax meeting was preceded by a session of the Diamond
Jubilee Steering Committee, with added members Claire Floyd,
Gwen Howard, Marj Abraham, Marge Ison, and Carolyn Lattier.
Discussed were plain of action, group meeting schedules, and
designation of Sue Sidle as Coordinator.
C.O. 7 :45, signed vouchers.
Librarian: recap of recent major grant award, and items on which
Port Townsend was -downgraded. Info on Title -2 grant for
reference tie -ins, due mid - October.
Summary of budget as submitted to Council. Comparison of
salaries in City departments.
Council Retreat: questionnaire was returned. Bev and Sue will
attend and make presentation.
Finances - City Clerk has suggested asking for a designated reserve
of $10 th, not to spend but to cover temporary malajustments
between Library payments and City Income units. No charge
to be made. Bev will follow up.
Resolution by Board: to thank those who put on the Carnegie Day
celebration; to be prepared.
• Committees: Budget, contact with City in process, to be maintained.
Personnel: Anne Steurer reported discussions with Staff
on concernoith the 16% pattern. Explained that this is being tried
in place of the ploy of allowing for a few percent reduction.
Staff thought additional funding should not be % across the
board, but should be weighted toward the lower wage rates,
perhaps on a graduated % scale.
Staff also suggested keeping the City aware of Library needs,
for example if a windfall occurs,
Fund Raising: tied in with work of Steering Committee.
Discussion of Fact Sheet already distributed. Lars suggested
it is too long, may not be read; better shortened, partly
at least to one - liners, to be read at a glance; plus
eye -- catchers.
Garage Sale, at Fairgrounds, help needed. Fair building will be
used, at no charge.
Heritage House owne :p suggests a Librarians' Weekend, with
City Bed and Breakfasts offering reduced rates, and giving
a percentage to the Library Fund.
November meeting will be a week earlJ!, on November 23, to allow
timely signing of vouchers, etc.
