BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Regular Meeting
November 19, 1990
Ca±l to order 7 :30 pm. Present: Sidle, Mortenson, Howard; Direstor
Shelton; for Friends, .dean Dunlap.
Meeting time, discussion: Monday vs. heating bldg; could meet another
night upstairs — might allow or attract more public.
Minutes of previous meeting approved.
Director: funds available to do outside water taps.
Library use about same, up somewhat.
Carol Toyne, Arts Commission, will coordinate, and install,.art exhibits.
Garden Club will decorate for Christmas, and have other exhibits.
Discover Program will be bought for 6 months; Kiwanis is paying
half and will consider after that.
MOTION, MSA, to thank Kiwanis for donating $800 for Discover Program.
Friends, Dunlap: Annual Meng went well, not much activity.
Adult Education programs will go in Spring.
New Volunteer Coordinator is Alta Diment.
Friends will do Tile sale; suggest $35; some comment that is high
for some persons.
Workshop — demonstration on computer graphics, no date given.
Desirable to have Board Meetings noticed in Leader; Kaiser offered to do.
NEXT BOARD MEETING — December 17.
Budget is in City Council works, up on next meeting.
BUILDING: fan noise in Carnegie Room; has been some correction,
discussion of methods.
Other changes, specs are needed.
Bldg. Contract is basically signed off, with completion of
electrical contract.
Roof job is finished.
One outside columnar light needs tightening.
Roof downspout on church side, unknown where it goes underground,
may cause of puddling.
Volunteers installed about 300 ft. of plastic water line, buried;
will be tied into water entry line, and taps installed.
Landscape watering will be by hose from taps.
More landscaping rock being used than originally planned; but
bark expected to be cheaper than est. Old concrete from
steps in rear will be removed.
Location of dumpster and mailbox to be determined, convenience
vs. visibility..i.
Ison Memorial: deposit has been made on cat sculpture. Plans for
setting are in progress.
PERSB L ::- dommittee meeting held on coming 6 -day scheduling.
Barbara Kaiser will not be returning. Bev will rearrange. Carol
Baker will take on some jobs, as Asst. II. Isabel will go to
30 —hr. week. Blanchard will have more duties. After discussion —
MOTION MSA — If Barbara Kaiser decides to return, she can be internally
hired, if there is a position open she qualifies for.

PERSONNEL — cont'd: on 6—day week, Bev suggested full Board and Staff
meet to brain - -storm details. Will be done at December meeting.
Need to bring out feelings and emotions; and to spread all info to
all. Bev will furnish a 'facilitator'.
MOTION MSA — on December 17, to have Potluck at 5:30 pm. Board on
basic business at .6 :30 to 7:00, then workshop on Library Hours.
Training class for Volunteers: to be planned at Retreat.
MOTION MBA, to postpone planned lunch for Volunteers; plaques are
not ready for Dedication.
OLD BUSINESS: Bev described large meeting on Planning Process &
Children's Services. Bev was Facilitator. Committee groups were
formed in 4 categories, for comments. Further meeting planned,
final review in March.
NEW BUSINESS: Governor's Conference next June; 8 focus groups, for
different library types. Videos for main meeting. Discussion of
persons not using library, but possible contributors of ideas.
Poverty Playhouse person planning Film Series, needs sponsor to get
films from King Co. Library. Question of suitability and
liability.
Old books upstairs are beigg cataloged by volunteer.
RETREAT DATE; January 19. Board to °..start meeting at 8:30 am.
