Director's report
see attached report
The library was visited by approximately 20 telephone representatives regarding the long
awaited new telephone system to be implemented by the City. There is a "25 lead" into
the library building which will make the installation easier. The target date is June 1997.
At present the library has 2 1/2 working phones.
Van Hope has installed additional adult video shelves between existing ones.
Friends of the Port Townsend Library report
Orabelle reported that the Volunteer Recognition celebration held Sunday night, February
23 was a success. Twenty -seven volunteers worked 100 hours or over and were entitled
to have a book donated in their name to the library by the Friends. Five members of the
Port Townsend Library Children's Choir directed by staff member Dahti Blanchard
provided the entertainment. They were accompanied on the piano by Theresa Gibson.
The Friends are selling tickets to "Ladies on the Shore" to be held March S, at the Oscar
Erickson Building at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Tickets are 6 dollars apiece and
proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Library.
The board commended the staff and director for being self motivated and for holding up
so well despite the fact that library has become so much "busier."
Port Townsend Library Foundation report
The foundation has begun to plan an author program for the fall.
Personnel Committee
Orabelle reported that the Personnel Committee is looking at 1997 salaries in several
regions. She has some preliminary figures. Library Director salary is way down compared
to other libraries. Port Townsend Library MLS positions salaries are down $2.00 an hour.
Non MILS positions salaries seem to be right in line.
Linnea's anniversary date in June is approaching. Her. salary will be reconsidered in April.
Community Relations
Discussion regarding closure of the Carnegie Room to public use. Information will go to
the Leader before the March 10th Library Development Plan final meeting.

Development Plan.
New Business
