The minutes of the July 28th meeting and the August 17th meeting were approved. Director's Report: In addition to the written report, Linnea mentioned that during the 1989 building renovation the electrical service to the building was not brought into the library at the level that it should have been. Hanson Electric discovered this. The road, sidewalk and yard in front of the library will need to be torn up. It has not been determined as yet whether Hanson Electric or Puget Sound Energy will do the cut across the street. The elevator softload has been finished. July circulation statistics were down 8 %. Possible reasons for this include the fact that the library was closed an additional day over the Independence Day weekend, people may have been confused about the library closure in August, and the summer reading program ended early. Friends: Orabelle did not attend the last meeting, but she commented on the wonderful newsletter that was recently sent out. The newsletter includes a contest. The lasts meeting of the group was held on the Pink House lawn and included a picnic. Foundation: The Foundation will meet the 3rd Wednesday of September. Staff: The staff and many super volunteers have been very busy with the library move. Linnea took the Board and guests on a tour of the progress. Budget Committee: The 1999 budget has been submitted and a copy is included in the Board notebook. Linnea sent a memo to Julie regarding the library's need for extra staff. Personnel: Orabelle reported that in her study she discovered that the library salaries are good for the low to medium end of the market level for libraries that are within commuting distance of Port Townsend. Community Relations: The committee has met and decided that the centennial 49 celebration of the library will be held October 16th and 17th. The committee is still working on details. Old Business: This is Orabelle Connally's last meeting as a board member. The group discussed recruitment of a new member. Mayor Julie McCulloch has not received any applications. New Business: Tim McMahon, city attorney, explained the differences in how the library would be administered in a city manager form of government. The next meeting of the library board will be held September 28th at 5:15 PM. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM. 0
