Minutes: The minutes of the February 23rd meeting were approved unanimously.
Bills: The bills were approved unanimously.
No communications.
No public comment.
Director's Report: See attached. Linnea read from the Annual Report from the State Library.
Port Townsend Public Library checked out 71.24 items per open hour in 1997. 193,000 items
were circulated which means that 23.21 items were checked out per capita. In 1996 Port
Townsend Library was 8th highest in the state, in 1997 we are up from that because of 30 %+
increase in circulation.
Bills will be paid weekly from city hall beginning this week. The library will benefit from this as
bills will be paid in a more timely fashion. Budget committee chair, Chris, will begin signing
vouchers this week.
Friends: The Friends Annual meeting and quarterly booksale will be held June 13th. There will
be a garage sale at Gwen Howard's home on May 2. She will accept items to be sold on May 1
only. The Friends have given their permission to Beth to have their name be used during children's
furniture grant match exploration.
Foundation: Bill Howard, Phyllis Schultz, Rae Tennyson, and Marion Rideout have been
appointed to the Foundation Board. Elections will be held at their June meeting.
Staff: Carol reported that we now have 4 volunteers mending audio visual materials. The surplus
metal shelving that has been stored in the parking lot has been hauled away.
The children's furniture grant request from the McEachera Charitable Trust has been partially
funded. They have given $10,000 with no strings attached. They have promised another $10,000
if donors can be found to match the $20,000. Beth is working hard on this and has approached
many possible donors.
Old Business: Linnea led a discussion regarding the improper and dangerous wiring that was done
in the 1990 remodel of the library building. Hanson Electric spent 2 1/2 days correcting the
situation.
The councilmanic bond meeting will be held tomorrow night March 24. Linnea will attend.
