HomeMy WebLinkAbout092799• PORT TOWNSEND LIBRARY OARD MEETING Port Townsend September 27, 1999 Present: John Sullivan (President), Bill Maxwell, Eileen Price, Kate Schumann, Sarah Muirhead Staff: Linnea Patrick (Director), Carol Costello (minutes) The meeting was called to order by President John Sullivan at 5:23 PM. The minutes from the August 23rd meeting were approved as read. Communication: Eileen shared a comment from a patron regardin g rdue.f response to the fact that she had donated books and returned book that were o Director's report: Judy Gunter, director of Jefferson County ab urralLibrary cDr interview is Dtrec P retiring at the end of March 2000. Linnea has volunteered panel, nel if the wish to include a local librarian. She discussed the importance of their choice because of the relationship of shared CLAN resources. Community Relations committee chair Bill, suggested b a joint and Jefferson with library County Rural directors and board members ,$CUSS Port clude accomplishments during the past year, the Library. Herb and Nancy Payson will present a benefit program "Cruising the Caribbean, a Neglected Paradise," on Wednesday October 20th, 7 :30 PM, Wheeler Theater, Fort Ne g ortion of the sales of their books, will benefit the Port Worden. Proceeds, including a p Townsend Library. the library for the year The Friends have decided to help with the adult perhaps reference e s ullout bookshelves for the 2000. They will purchase special shelving, perhaps adult area. A donor plate will be attached. 'on: Linnea attended the September 15th meeting of the ou musical tiendowment. They Foundation: discussed strategy for raising additional dollars for the Bob polishuk They formed a committee to work on this. 9 The investment committee is ready to put some of the dollars in a long -term investment portfolio. Staff: The children's staff has begun reading the third installment in the popular Harry Potter series. They read Tuesday nights at 6:30. Children's choir will begin October 5`h from 4:30 -- 5:30, for children ages 7 and up. Dahti Blanchard is continuing her homeschool workshop series once a month. The most recent topic was Ancient Egypt. The children's staff is planning a program of scary stories, costumes, scary movie and a giant pumpkin raffle on October 30`" at 6:30 PM. Beth, Dahti, and Bev continue visiting local schools to promote library cards and to do booktalks. Carol Costello and Carol Cahill attended a Microsoft Frontpage (web page) workshop in Portland last week. Carol Costello will attend the annual meeting of the Washington Association of Library Employees (WALE) in Ocean Shores in October. • Old business: Linnea has not received any feedback from David Timmons regarding the 2000 budget. However, there is no extra revenue projected for the city. David has asked several department heads to reorganize their spending for the next budget year, but is not asking Linnea to do this. Bill Maxwell will not be here for the next board meeting, October 25`h. There will be no monthly meeting in December. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM.
