HomeMy WebLinkAbout102300• • PORT TOWNSEND LIBRARY BOARD MEETING Port Townsend Library October 23, 2000 Present: Vice President Sarah Muirhead, Eileen Price, Kate Schumann, Larry Thomas Excused: Bill Maxwell Staff: Linnea Patrick (Director), Carol Costello (minutes) Guests: Allan Frank (City Council), Julia Owens Vice President Sarah Muirhead called the meeting to order at 5:20 PM. The minutes from the August 28'" meeting were approved as read. Communications: Linnea received a bill from Mary Ann Seward for facilitator services that she provided for the special board meeting held on September 25'''. The letter from Mary Ann states that she has kindly donated her services to the library. The board members received a letter signed by Dahti Blanchard and other members of the library staff. Linnea has included the letter in the board notebook. The board members received a copy of a letter send to the editor of the Leader from Jim Tolpin. It will be included in the board notebook. Linnea answered Allen Frank's questions concerning two recent newspaper articles that contained incorrect information about the library budget for 2001. Allen discussed tax bases. The City Council is working with governmental entities including Jefferson County, the Public Utility District, the City of Port Townsend, the Port of Port Townsend, and the Port Townsend School District to consolidate resources Director's Report: Linnea reported that City Manager David Timmons will present his budget to the City Council by the beginning of next week. Then department heads will make presentations to City Council committees. The Community Development committee will be deciding the library's budget for 2001. The date is yet to be set. Friends: The next Friends book sale will be held Saturday November 4t'. Laura Popenoe will donate part of the revenue from her art show to be held at the Bishop Block in April and May 2001, to the Friends. The Friends have been asked to be part of the Alternative Holiday Fair to be held before Christmas. The Kiwaaians have distributed bark on the library landscape. The Friends have a new co- treasurer, Geralyn Rackowski. Foundation: Larry attended the Foundation's retreat. Lang suggested that the board might want to look at seeking grants to supplement the library budget. 1... . • Staff: Carol Costello attended the WALE conference held in Richland. Carol Baker has returned after a six -month leave of absence. The Children's Library Choir has begun practicing on Thursdays from d until 7 PM, Committee Reports: No committee reports. Old Business: Discussion of the Library Development Plan was postponed until the next board meeting. "Support Your Library" buttons will be available at the circulation desk for a donation to the Friends. The meeting was adjourned at 7 PM. The next meeting will be Monday November 27`h at 5:15 PM.
