HomeMy WebLinkAbout102501Minutes 10/25/01 . Port Townsend Public Library Board The meeting was called to order by Board President, Bill Maxwell, at 9:10 a.m. Board members were all present. Library Director, Linnea Patrick, took minutes. The minutes of the September 27 board meeting were approved as written. (m: Larry, s: Eileen) Communications included handouts sent by WLA Friends and Trustees Division chair, Patience Rogge, regarding Washington UCITA legislation, I -747's possible effect on libraries, and the ALA litigation on the Child Internet Protection Act. An August memo from City Attorney, John Watts, regarding e-mail and the public meetings law was circulated and discussed. Bill Maxwell passed on comments made to him by city council write -in candidate, Leola Armstrong, regarding the library's gift book acceptance policy. The Library Director's report included a reminder about the November and December board meetings being combined into a single December 6 meeting. Linnea will be on vacation for the last two weeks in November, out of town Thanksgiving week, in Port Townsend the second week. Friends of the Library: Kate Schumann reported that the September 29 book sale was a success, that membership renewals have been brisk, and the next book sale will be in late January. Landscaping volunteers are needed. Nan Toby Tyrell will be doing a benefit concert for the Friends on November 8. Eileen Price commended Kate on the recent Jefferson County Literacy Council program -- a performance of an episode of "The Shadow" radio program for which Kate was both an organizer and a performer. The staff report was an invitation to the library's community family Halloween party on Monday evening, October 29, from 6:30 — 8:00. Under Old Business there was a discussion of the ramifications for the annexation process of the recent resignation of Jefferson County Library Director, Bill Mitchell. Linnea reported that the preliminary budget request presented to the City Council by the City Manager includes funding for 53 open hours per week and $10,000 additional funding for materials. The library budget will be reviewed by the Council Community Development Committee. Larry Thomas agreed to be the board representative who will attend the review session.
