HomeMy WebLinkAbout031004• Meeting of the Port Townsend Public Library Advisory Board Held at The Pink House, Port Townsend, on March 10, 2004 Board Members Present: Co -chair Eileen Price, Deborah Carroll, Bill Maxwell, Larry Thomas, and Alternate Board Member Julia Owens. Kate Schumann was excused. Staff Present: Theresa Percy, Library Director Library Foundation Representative: Phyllis Schultz Friends of the Library Representative: Geralynn Rackowski Guests: None. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 AM by co- chairperson Eileen Price. Executive Session The board met in Executive Session from 8:05 to 8:30 AM to discuss a personnel matter with library director Theresa Percy. Approval of the Minutes It was MSC to receive and approve the minutes of the Library Advisory Board meeting held February 10, 2005, with the correction of the spelling of Robert Reedy's name. Public Comment and Communications Eileen Price received a communication from a patron who is upset over the removal of the old glass display case in the childrens area. Theresa responded that the case was removed for the safety of the children, as the glass was fragile and not safe. Friends of the Library Report Geralynn Rackowski reported for the Friends the following: - -The Friends are holding a book sale on March 12t" and need help. Please call Karen Carr to volunteer. - -Two garden work parties are planned for the first two Saturdays in April. The Friends bid on and won an "Eight Weeders Weeding" auction item and will be using them to clean up the garden. - -The Spanish Language program for young children organized by Jean Tarasico was quite successful. - -The open Youth Services position was changed from a "manager" position to and reopened as "senior library associate /youth services librarian ". Theresa has promoted Jean Tarasico to fill the position. - -This month there will be a program on The Pirate Queen by Barbara Sjoholm, featuring a slideshow about women pirates. - -The "Single Volume" book group is moving forward, with help from the Leader and The Brewery. - -PTTV programs continue to air. - -The article for the Leader promoting the library and the new Long -Range Plan is still in process. - -The mural in the entry way begins in March. -- Theresa will be attending a week -long "Managing Budget Process" workshop in Seattle at the end of March. Old Business Robert Reedy wrote an article and the Leader agreed to a regular feature encouraging books, reading, and promotion of the library. Julia Owens has researched a tour of the new downtown Seattle Public Library for the Advisory Board and will make plans for a field trip in May. New Business Advisory Board terms were reviewed. It was noted that Bill Maxwell's term expires in May 2005. With Board approval, Bill agreed to serve for another year. His new term expires in May 2006. Terms for the remaining Board members expire as follows: Larry Thomas -2006, Deborah Carroll -2007, Eileen Price- -2008, Kate Schumann -2009. The next PT Library Advisory Board meeting will be Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 8:00 AM, at the Pink House, PT. Beginning in May, 2005, the Library Advisory Board meetings will move to the P Thursday of the month. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 AM. n U
