Chris Wilson has attended a few children's programs to offer information and answer questions about the Library Expansion Project to families. Staff Report: An updated handout of the Library Expansion Project has been made available. It includes the plan of action should the expansion project not be completed. There will eventually be an article in both the Leader and the Peninsula Daily News with this updated information. Theresa proposed a stronger role to initiate, organize, and follow up efforts to gather people to voice their positive opinions of the Library to the City Council. Theresa also requested board members attend the City Council meetings, which are on the first and third Monday of every month at 6:30 P.M. On a rotational basis, members should voice their own positive opinions to the council to rebut the repetition of negative complaints the council has seen recently. The staff of the Library went on a retreat to Whidbey Island this past week. Part of this trip was to see the Coupeville Library which has recently been remodeled and has many of the modern features that our projected plan of the Library will have. Theresa asked the Board if it would be worthwhile to create a slideshow presentation with photos of the Coupeville Library's features to offer a visual aid to potential donors in conjunction with an information session. It was unanimous among present Board members, that it would be very worthwhile. Ken stated that even he has a difficult time visualizing what the future library could look like. It was agreed that January and February would be a good time of year to have these informative gatherings, and that people would be more likely to attend since it is a less hectic time of year. Eileen made the suggestion to include a special guest speaker to attract higher attendance to these information programs. The November Port Townsend Shorts will include a program about the library followed by a "flash mob" dance. Friends Report: None 0 Library Foundation Report: It was discussed that the complexity of the Library Expansion Project is very unclear and confusing to potential donors. It needs to be understood that it is a process of phases and not a one -time affair. It is crucial to make this statement clear and concise and to get that information out to the people. Three new members were approved and joined the Library foundation. A donor recognition was published in the newspaper. Old Business: Do we continue the clarification of the Board's role as defined on the City and Library's website? New Business: Fran Post, our chair person, will be out of town in November, so our usual monthly meeting will be postponed until December 4th. We will be having our annual holiday party on January 5th. Details will follow. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 P.M.; Next meeting is December 4th at the Library Learning Center. CJ
