Minutes of Port Townsend Library Board Meeting on April 27, 2006
Held at The Pink House @ 9:00 a.m. IT
Board Members present: Bill Maxwell, Kate Schumann, and Eileen Price
Staff present: Theresa Percy - Library Director
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 18 9: 00 a.m. at The
Pink House
The minutes of the March meeting were approved as sent.
Communications: Bill received a note from Julie say she would resign
her temporary position as Deborah Carroll's replacement. Bill will
ask her if.she is willing to fill out Deborah's term which goes until
May 2007.
Director's Report: Theresa reported that the PT library's patrons
take out more items per capita than any other library in the state.
She. wants to find out what percent of the circulated material is used
by those carrying green cards.
The Community Read was a great success and attracted the attention of
many people who were not already library patrons. Theresa said plans
are already underway for next year's Community Read.
Architects: 10 have been reviewed and now Public Works is looking at
clans to invite the top 3 to come and present .a proposal. Library
jpace /Computers: The rearrangement of the 2nd floor has been well -
received. Mark Peil has helped with organizing networking issues. The
computers set up for the catalogue are only for that specific use and
are no longer used for Internet access. WIFI has taken pressure off
the library's computers as many patrons now bring in their own
portables.
Foundation Board: Members met to review mission statement's two main
points; one to support the library's mission and two to supplement
funds not provided by the city. There will be a joint meeting in the
fall of the three boards.
Security: staff is being more careful about locking up and Theresa is
talking to Dave Timmons about alarms_
Homebound Service: Hiring is underway with background checks being
made. Max Grover has designed a logo for the service.
Miscellaneous:
Mark Decker has applied to become an Advisory Board member.
Theresa has been asked to be on the evaluation for the High School
Accreditation Committee.
Theresa is hoping for many more people to join up for the Library's
entry in the Rhody Parade.
Kathie Meyer of the Leader has offered to help publicize the Library
Book Group.
Ray Serebrin and George Stratton and Theresa plan to meet to
discuss how to market online databases to the public, laying the
groundwork for bigger future projects.
New Business: There will be a breakfast get together in mid May to
thank Larry and Deborah for their valuable service to the library.
Where being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:15.
