Communications:
• Mark Decker's resignation letter from the Library
Advisory Board was received and accepted.
• Community members are asking for a safer and more accessible library bus
stop. Theresa spoke with Kathy Howard in Public Works about this issue
• Kate was approached by Sherry Grover about Max Grover's painted salmon
which is beginning to peel and needs to be lightly sanded and varnished.
Eileen will follow through by asking a Boat Haven fiberglass expert to
either volunteer his time or have the Friends pay for the work.
Public Comment:
• Andrew Reding spoke about the letter he wrote to The Leader
asking that the City take the $72,000 library shortfall from the $475,000
allotted to the city road maintenance budget.
• City Council member George Randels inquired about the city and county libraries
combining but with the city library operating as a separate tax district. The Board and
Theresa provided him with the history of this proposal to date and expressed uncertainty
about the Port Townsend library being able to survive as its own tax district.
Director's Report: (see Theresa's April report with following additional items):
• Walkers are invited to join the PTPL contingent in the Rhody Parade
• Al Frank has requested minutes of all Library Advisory Board meetings
• A people counter will soon be installed at the entrance to the library
• The PTPL library groups (Friends, Foundation, Advisory Board) now
have an office in the upstairs of the Pink Building that can be used for
administrative and fundraising purposes
• Theresa was successful in procuring the $8000 community read grant
• The first fund development training and meeting with David Timmons takes
place on June 13
• The Friends Book sale will be held on June 16 and help is always needed
and appreciated
• Lynn Ring has returned to work on a part -time basis
