0 Port Townsend Library Advisory Board Minutes

Members present: Kate Schumann, Eileen Price, Caitlin Harrison, Bill Maxwell

Communications:
• Eileen heard from a mother of 2 young children who is absolutely thrilled and
impressed with the library's summer reading program
• Kate had a grandmother tell her how much progress her granddaughter has made in
reading through the Read to Rover program
• Bill received a compliment on the library along with a request for small individual
spaces in the new building where patrons can spread out their materials
• Theresa was told that the bike rack is problematic for recumbent bikes. She passed
the comment on to the city
Director's Report: see Theresa's June report with following additional items:
+ Ray Serabrin asked the PTPL Advisory Board to set the agenda and invite the JCL trustees to
our proposed joint meeting
• The people counter has arrived and is being installed
• Theresa is working on urging the WA Public Libraries Directors to set standards regarding
hours
• The library needs to catch up with and plug into myspace, you tube etc. Theresa will invite the
Ass. Dean of the Lib. School @ U of WA to address the joint library groups on how we can
best use these resources to further our efforts
• Theresa hopes to have the budget finished by Nov. 1. It will be adjusted for inflation and cost
of living expenses
• The library building project will be on the agenda at the August 6th council meeting. Advisory
Board members are encouraged to attend.
• The Library Development Steering committee meets next week
• A designer is working on new signage for outside of the library
• Theresa got a $2,000 planning grant for the project entitled, "Wellness -- Eating on the Cheap"
and will apply for the $15- 20,000 grant next May
• Peter Wiant is making a DVD of the library for promotional purposes
• Hilltop Tavern will be hosting "Bingo for Books" on Wed. nights
Next meeting is Thursday, August 16th at 9:00 a.m. at The Pink House
