January 17, 2008 9:00 A.M. Pink House
Members present: Kate Schumann, Eileen Price, Caitlin Harrison, Wes Eng,
Bill Maxwell, Benjamin Dow
Staff present: Theresa Percy, Cris Wilson
Scribe: Eileen Price
Minutes of last meeting: Forthcoming and pending approval
Introductions: Adult services librarian Cris Wilson was formally introduced
to the Advisory Board. Cris and her husband moved to Port Townsend in
2004 -2005 from Belgrade, Serbia, where she also worked in a library. She
began working at PTPL as a sub and is now working 25 hours a week and is in
charge of collections.
Communications:
• Bill spoke with the President of the Jefferson County Library Board and our joint meeting
is set for Thursday, February 28, at 5:00 p.m. Since the PTPL is still open at that time Bill will
check on the availability of the St. Paul's Parish Hall.
• Bill spoke with a friend who moved from Port Townsend and the two things he misses
most are the Rose Theatre and the library.
In light of the tremendous success of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts at the Rose
Theatre, Kate suggested that the library partner with the Rose next year and sponsor a coinciding
lecture series.
Ben heard from Richard Berg that the gathering at the Maxwell's home regarding the
library expansion was informative and worthwhile.
Director's Report: see Theresa's December report with following additional items:
• The Adventures in Home Design Series, sponsored collaboratively with the
county library, was so well attended that people were turned away at the
door.
Budget — With the library budget lacking $20,000, the Friends of the Library are
sponsoring a mailing to its members asking for contributions to purchase new materials. Carol
Costello created a brochure which will be mailed to each member of the Friends. Board members
are asked to personally ask 5- 10 people for a contribution.
• Bond & O &M levy — Theresa and Bill will attend the City Council
retreat on Saturday, January 19. Theresa will report that the library has a
network ready to go. Fran Post has volunteered to be campaign manager and
will work closely with Sue Marett. Still missing is a phone chair and
Theresa is accepting suggestions. Julie van Pelt is helping to develop the
library's message for the campaigns. Theresa needs the okay from the City
Council by. the beginning of February.
Meetings adjourned at 10 :15 a.m.
Next meeting is Thursday, February 21, at 9:00 a.m. at The Pink House
