Library Advisory Board 10/19/09 Present: Fran Post, Caitlin Harrison, Eileen Price, Wes Eng, Bill Maxwell, Benjamin Dow, Absent Ken Dane Staff: Theresa Percy Public Comment— Caitlin heard new mother say that "the best support system for new mothers in PT is library programs as new mom in community." 0 Communications- 12/22/2009 Page 2 of 2 Caitlin- Foundation Meeting Review: Reviewed role of foundation in capital campaign IsFreed up some money for book purchasing, and clarified how money donated via foundation for books can be spent by library staff Talked about raising seed money for capital campaign, including appointing Theresa campaign coordinator- Caitlin added that she thought this was the best idea as she would de facto already be doing this job; foundation would hire executive assistant for paper work Lien asks if private campaign still necessary if city pursues councilmatic bond for financing of expansion rather than taking it to voters. Theresa states that in all discussions, public part would only be 50% Feedback continues over structure of campaign committee. Affirm Theresa's ability to make decision about who should be executive assistant Staff Reports- -New food programs starting based on grant. Community read grant also went through. Director Reports -- • Theresa goes over recent complaint over genocide themed video in collection. Reviewed library policy on appropriate materials & Library Association paint -of -view Fran. expresses concern about lack of ratings based on violence. But most agree that it is not the Library's responsibility to create a ratings system beyond those adopted by the motion picture industry. The board voted to support the current interpretation of library policy. 6 yea. 1 abstention School assessment study continues. 12/22/2009
