Communications — A library patron notified Ben that the library is too small.
Friends Report — Book sale will be Saturday, October 81h at the Rec Center.
Foundation Report — Eileen attended the September meeting as Advisory Board liaison.
• The first "house party" for the Capital Campaign was held and attendees contributed $5000
to the campaign. Paula Clark reported that over 20 such parties are currently scheduled.
• Volunteers are needed to man the campaign booth for 2 hour shifts at the PT Farmer's
Market on October 22 and November 5th
• Next meeting is October 11 at 7:00 and Caitlin will represent the Advisory Board.
Staff Reports — None
Director's Report — In addition to Theresa's printed report:
• Theresa distributed brochures written by David King explaining the upcoming Fire
Service Levy and Consolidation. Linnea Patrick has also prepared a succinct
explanation of the levy that can be found in the Friends of the Library newsletter.
• Theresa is meeting with library movers and looking at Olycap and Swains for possible
temporary relocation spots.
• The Port Townsend Education Foundation did not fund the school libraries' membership in
CLAN.
• In light of the numerous changes affecting the library, both locally and universally, Theresa
feels this is not the time to work on a strategic plan. She is suggesting that a leadership
summit be held at the end of 2011 and that 2012 be designated as a year of exploration and
information gathering for the PTPL. All parties would reconvene in 2013 with a new plan
and vision for the library's future. Sunday, December 4 was suggested as a possible date
for the summit.
Old Business/New Business —
• Board members discussed whether quarterly meetings, as opposed to monthly, would be
adequate for the Advisory Board. Members felt that perhaps instead we should go on hiatus in
the summer when so many members are away and attendance is low. It was decided that we
would skip October's meeting and assess the situation when we meet again in November — not
at the Pink House which will be undergoing restoration.
Meeting adjourned at 5:00. Next meeting is Monday, November 8, 2011, 4 :00 p.m., at CITY HALL.
Details will follow as the date approaches.
