HomeMy WebLinkAbout071712Port Townsend Public Library Advisory Board Minutes Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 4:00 P.M., LLC Members Present: Fran Post, Eileen Price, Ken Dane, Mirandy Cook Staff Present: Theresa Percy Scribe: Mirandy Cook Public Comment: Margaret Lee attended the meeting and made the suggestion that the PTPL Advisory Board agenda should be posted on the library website. Communications: Eileen Price reported hearing questions from confused library patrons who are still unaware that the library has reopened at Mountain View Commons. Staff Report: The library is currently in phase two of the library project and construction has remained on- schedule. The Heritage Capital Funds has allowed a complete renovation and restoration of the Carnegie building including the removal of the historically inaccurate elevator. LSTA awarded a grant of $5,000 to the library to initiate career /transition programs for patrons over the age of 50. These programs will also include computer classes as well as training for volunteers to sustain them. Now that the library has settled into Mountain View Commons, many challenges have arisen. The library is operating at many locations (Carnegie, Library Learning Center, Mountain View Commons & Grant Street Elementary) which has weakened the staff cohesiveness. With staff and materials all over the place, operations are not as efficient. Parking remains to be a challenge to all. The Library collaboration is expanding to include Blue Heron Middle School, Grant Street Elementary, and Port Townsend High School with the existing C.L.A.N. (Port Townsend Public Library, Jefferson County Library, Quilcene, and Brennon). It is projected to go "live" in October. PTPL Steering Committee Report: Polly Lyle is now chairing our meetings and we have become significantly more organized, with committees and individuals actively participating in various initiatives (Donor outreach, recognition, appeal letter, Carnegie Ball, etc.) and city meetings. •
