Introduction of New Members — Jennifer Cohn moved to Port Townsend from Wisconsin in June.
She holds an MLS and is very interested in community /government partnerships. Nathan Allen
is a senior at PTHS and will provide a vital link between the library and high schoolers. The
Advisory Board extends a warm welcome and very much looks forward to working with both
of them.
Public Comment — None
Communications — None
Friends Report — Next used book sale is Saturday, October 13th at the Rec Center.
Foundation Report — The monthly meeting of the Library Foundation will now be held on the 4th
Monday of the month. Soon -to -be Advisory Board member, Jennifer Cohn, has graciously
agreed to represent the Advisory Board at these meetings.
• They are waiting to hear from NEH regarding their grant proposal.
• They hope to submit a grant proposal to the Norcliffe Foundation soon.
Staff Reports — Kris Wilson reported on the numerous programs the library will be presenting in the
next few months.
Carnegie Gala Update — The format of the holiday gala scheduled for December 15th has changed
from a community ball to a cocktail soiree by invitation only.
Director's and Capital Campaign Committee's Reports:
• The capital campaign committee (formerly known as the steering committee) is
meeting on Sept. 19. David Timmons and Ken Clow will attend and discuss funding the
Phases 4 and 5 of the library expansion project.
• The City Council is looking for input from the planned Town Meetings before deciding
upon the timing of the bond for Phase 5 of the project.
• The library centennial book is being written by Chris Clow and should be published in
early 2013.
• Theresa encouraged board members and library patrons to attend the City Council
meetings on behalf of the library.
• In conjunction with Wind Rose winery in Sequim, Library Read Volume 11 red wine
will soon be available for purchase.
• Operating the library from 2 locations continues to prove challenging but circulation
numbers are increasing.
• The Carnegie Room has been found to be structurally unsound and cannot support
bookshelves.
• The FEMA work is wrapping up.
• Phase 1V (cement work) will be done next summer.
•• A poster recognizing all those who have contributed to the capital campaign thus far
will be hung at the library and appear in The Leader.
Old Business/New Business —
• Description of PTPL Advisory Board's purpose — Fran is working on solidifying said
statement and will send final product to Theresa, the Board and Pam at The City of PT.
Meeting adjourned at 5:15. Next meeting is Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the Library Learning Center.
