AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO FIREWORKS; LIMITING
THE DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS TO JULY 4 ONLY IN
CALENDAR YEAR 1992; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY;
AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the city council finds extremely dry weather and
vegetation conditions, and,
WHEREAS, the city Fire Department's ability to transport water
to a fire has been reduced due to equipment failure, now,
therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION
ASSEMBLED, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. There is here and hereby declared to be an emergency
due to the severe drought conditions and extreme fire danger.
Section 2. The city of Port Townsend restricts the discharge of
common fireworks in calendar year 1992 to July 4 only. The times
of discharge shall be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
~ The city council finds as a fact and declares that an
emergency exists and that this ordinance is necessary for the
immediate preservation of public peace, health, or safety or for
the support of city government and its existing public
institutions.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage,
approval, and publication in the form and manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second, and third times, passed by the city
council and approved by the Mayor~y of June,~__ 1992.
