COMMUNICATIONS
A letter from the State of Washington Dep~rtment of Retirement Systems was presented
tó the Council. The letter asked whether the City would be willing to contribute $7,628.57
toward the recovery ,of service time of Thomas Edgington. Said payment would provide lor ~
retirement income for Mr. Edgington. Council discussed the cost apd lac~ of available funds.
Councilmen Judy/Wilson moved that this request b~ denied. 'Motion/carried.

Mayor Steve made the following proclamations: The week of May 15-21 was declared

Rhododendron Festival Week. The week of May 8-15 was declareð Nursing Home Week.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Councilman Ciprioti reported that the Street Committe met on Friday, April 29, to
consider the various proposals forsurveý and installation of monum~nts iri the City. He
r~ported that, due to budget limitatio~s, th~ com~itte~ felt only the installation of
primary monuments could be accomplished at this time. Mr. Anderson submitted the low

Councilman Ciprioti reported that the Street Committe wishE~d to set a public
hearing to vacate certain streets upon whi~h the Junior High School is b~ilt. (Hearing to
be set under New Business). '
Councilman Judy reported to the Mayor that property 'ownership around City Lake
is still under investigation.
PUBLIC HEARING

The application of Cecil and Luneta Thelen for a streei vacation' of Lande~ from
57th to 58th was presented to the Council for nearing. Mayor Steve opened said hearing
by asking fbr comments from'propönents of the vacation.' Mrs. Lucile James, th~ adjoining
property owner to said street, asked what restrictions would be imposed on her if this
street vacation is granted. She was told that the City would retain utility easements but
that she could fence, pave or build on the vacated street. '

There was no further comment from the audience. Mayor' Steve turned the hearing
the Council for discussion. The Planning Commission recommended to approve said
anquĊttwas read. Councilmen Judy/Parker moved that the vaca1:ion of Landes
57th & 58th be approved. Motion passed. ~acation granted.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF MAY 17, 1977

The City Council of the City of Port Townsend met in regular session ,this 17th day of May 1977 at
7:30 pm. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, Mayor Joseph B. Steve presiding.
ROLL CALL
Officers and members present were as follows: Mayor Steve, City Atto:cney Abraham, City Clerk-
Treasurer McCoy and Councilmen Klenk, Ciprioti, Judy, Parker, Wilson and Shaneyfel't.

Judy/Klenk moved that the reading of the minutes be dispensed with and that they be approved as
written. Shortly thereafter, Councilman Ciprioti entered and requested the following addition to the minutes
under Committee reports: Ciprioti/Judy moved that the Planning Commission conside:c for vacation that portion

of 6th Street between Sherman and Hendricks. Motion passed.
COMMUNICATIONS
A letter from W.J. Daly, Attorney for P.U.D. No.1, noting that the city has made only one payment
on the well it is supposedly purchasing from said P.U.D. And stating that unless :9ayment are brought up to date
within 30 days of May l7, the P.U.D. will take further action.

Mayor Steve directed the City Attorney to brief the Council on said issue. Abraham gave a complete
history of the issue and recommended that nothing be done until the pending litigation is settled. Council agreed.
A letter from Summit Communication reporting the status of their project to install cable television
in Port Townsend.
