A representative of Local #175, Paperworkers Union in the audienc~, told about the formiLng of a committee at Crown Zellerbach mill to.deal with the problems caused by the energy crisis, and asked t~lt the Council appoinf a representative to their new Transportation Committee. The Transportation Committee will attempt to save jobs at the mill by promoting car pools, bussing, etc. mayor Steve appointed Councilman Ciprioti to represent the city.' " ADJOURNmENT I. Motion carried. COMMUN ICA TIONS The following communications were presented ånd read to the Council: 8 A letter of resignation a~City Treasurer from Verna W.Spindor, effective December 31, 1973. A plea from Calmar A. McCune that the Mayor and City Council seriously consider the "reef project" off Water Street. This letter is in response to a letter from the City Engineer dated December 18, 1973. , ' ' A letter from Public Utility District No.1 re: the City r~lieving itself of responsibili~y fpr water service outside the city limits, and asking that the City express its desire in this matter,. COMMITTEE RE~ORTS I Mayor Steve announced the committee assignments for the new year as follows: Finance Committee: Councilme~ Camfield, Judy and Parker Water Committee: Councilmen Judy, Ciprioti and Parker Street and Sewer Committee: Councilmen Ciprioti, Judy and Camfield Police and License Committee: Councilmen Klenk,. Camfield, Spindor Building and Sanitation Committee: Councilmen Spindor, Klenk and Ciprioti Fire and Light Committee: Councilmen ~arker, Spindor and Klenk I He ~lso announced the appointment of Robert Sahli to a six~year term on the Civil Service Commission, January ~, 1974 - December 31, 1979, replacing A. R. Macfarlane. City Engineer French gave a lengthy history of the water system outside the city limits and the City's involvement in said system. ORDINANCE NO. 1696 AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $2,500.00 TO THE 1'9q~ BUDGET OF THE WATER-SEWER DEPARTMENT FOR WATERLINE SUPPLIES~ AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. 8 The above orèinance was read for the second time. The above ordinance was read for the second time. It was moved by Councilman Camfield, seconded by Councilman Cipriott, that the third reading be by title only. ,Roll call: 6 yeas. The above ordinance was read for the first, second and third times. It was moved by Councilman Ciprioti, §econ- ded by Councilman Judy, that the ordinance be adopted. Roll call: 6 yeas. Ordinance adopted. ,- ORDINANCE NO. 1699 ; AN ORDINANCE FINDING AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST IN REGARD ¡TO THE PRESERVATION OF PUBLIC HEALTH, AND APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF ~~4,~800.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN AMBULANCE. 8 Because of the public health nature of the emergency, this ordinance did not have to be held over. It was read for the first, second and third times. It was moved by Councilman Ciprioti, seconded by Couneilman Judy, that the ordinance be now adopted. Roll call: 6 yeas. Ordinance adopted. ' ORDINANCE NO. 1700 AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $9,172.48 TO THE 1973 BUDGET OF THE STREET DEPARTMENT, FOR PURCHASE OF GRAVEL, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. /"1 Because of its nature, the above ordinance was read for the fir~t time and held over. It was .agreed that the Council should meet with the P.U.D. to discuss the sale of the water sy'stem .outside the City. The Clerk was instructed to write a letter requesting a meeting Januar~r 8, 1974, ,at 7:30 P.M. in--the Council Chambers.
