Mayor Smith reported on the meeting of the city employees that was held to discuss what company they would prefer for medical. It was decided by the employees to keep the two that was already in effect, Jefferson Coun~y medical and Bankers Life. Mayor Smith said that due to reduction in force this comming year in the garbage department he would like to see more emphasis placed on the individual home owner to make it easieD for the department to handlœ. the trash and garbage, what it amolmted to is putting the trash cans out where they can be easily handled. Mr Wiley, theater owner asked if any decision had been reached regarding eliminati~n of the three percent admission tax. C~unci1man Don Hoglund reported that the theater issue had been discussed at an executive session o~ the council and ~ was the opinion of the council at that time was to continue the tax. ADJOURNlVIENT As there was no further business to come before the council .at this time it was moved by Councilman Judy seconded by Councilman Siebenbaum that the meeting do now adjourn. "\ , ~ u 8 I I 8 I 8 I I 8 ~- I / I COMMI'rTEE REPORTS MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF JAN~~RY 7,1969 CONTrNUED 8 The following Ordinance was presented and acted upon as follows: . . ORDINANCE NO. 1559 AN ORDINANCE .APPRÒPRIATING THE SUM OF $2,309.00 TO THE CAPITAL OUTLAY APPROPRIATION FOR THE CITY STREET FUND IN THE 1969 BUDGET AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. Due to the contents of the above ordinance it had to be held 'over until the next 'reg~lar session. Street Supt. Hawley said that the restrictions on streets due to cold weather had been lifted this morning. I shutoffs' Water Supt. Minish, said there had been about three hundred or mo~e during the freeze, he said that there would be a notice in this weeks paper informing the people that trere was an ordinance stating that each dwelling should have their own shut off valve controlling the water into the premises. Garbage Supt. Perkins said ~hat .due _to the s~ow and one truck that was iaid up the department had gotten behind but had now .caught~p comple~ely at this time. - . Councilman Lindsey reported 'that he had met with the union a couple of times and should have had a report at this time but the union had called him when he happened to be out and has not heard from them since so no report. A union represenative was present and stated that due to the Hong Kong Flue that had hit their office a report could not be had at this .time but was sure one would be ready at the next regular session of the council. 8 N-:W BUSINESS Under new business the city cierk said that at the last general election a law was passed that elected officials of the city could receive pay raises without having to waiw th~ir full term. lfu said tnat tnere was one city official, the city treasurer who has not had a-raise in five years and would riot hàve one unless the council dosent see fit to give her a raise that she deserves and suggested 'that the ~a~or and Finance committee meet and see what could b~ done. Mayor Smith said that he agreed and -]l!Tould put it on the next agenda. Councilman Judy said_that the police had suggested åhat two street l;ghts of the ol~ type be replaced by the new vapor lights, one at Lawrence & Walker the other at Cherry & F. Councilman Judy made a motion seconded by Councilman Moody that the old type street lights at Lawrence & Walker and Cherry & F be replaced by the new vapor st:r>ee t light. Motion carried. I Mayor Smith said he has talked to two or three engineering firms and has another interview tomorrow. He said a number is interested in serving the city and ~~ould know more by the the next meeting on what arrangements whey would work under for the city. Mr Lloyd Hansen said he wondered what happened to the ordinance to repeal the $50.00 license on the skating rink. City Attorney Abraham said he was sure it was repealed in the blanket repealing we had a while back, but would check to make sure.
