content in our local vlaters é:md and the minute addit:i(m of flouride will p1""3vent é1nd delay
dental caries. '
I know of no ill effects that this element could cause anyone. Flouride has been in effect
in nmnerous cities throughout our nation und has resulted in improved dental health; and I D:;,',ve

Councilman Moody stated that since the last council meeting he had D lot of contacts and
personally was for flouridation, but since the contacts he vvould hiÕl'!e to go along with people
to. vote on it.
Councilman Scheyerssaid he would like ~ state his position, be believed in passing it by r
resolution tonight, mainly bec aus e of expendi 1b.re of time and enery. If vIe pass it here toni,gh
it could be budgeted this surYlJ'1er and go into effect Jan. 1, 1969. L~ VIe put it on the ballot
and it is passed next Sept. then it goes in the budget in 196£, it goes into the drinking
water in 1970. We are two years away if it goes on the bullot. He said that we cculd pass thi
tonight by ordinance and it v;auld be quite in Port To.Yil1send in t~"IO weeJ:;:s. But what VIe do here I
tonigh t, if 1iVe throw t!'is thing to the wolve s, i:lnd this is - V¡hat we do if we put it an the ball]t
we dont vote for scientific and'ho issue is ever decided by scienti:ic fact on the ballot.

water. He stated one ather th~ng is willingness to accept resposnibility, whut you really dont
vlant to do is accept the responsibility for this and maybe it is to avoid criticism. He said he
thought -it i-s the nature af the game to accept the respoDåibility, v.¡e have to have the courage I
to face up to th~_s and if ever issue thät carne befOI'e us, y¡e dodgned and put back to the public,
then I think we would be doing tIle public an in-g.stice. ^ll it take:3 is a little courage and I

Councilman Ruby said that he was for-flouridation but vlould like to have a five minute recess,

anti flouridation for a sounding board on the issue.
