Councilman Hoglund stated thot the finance co',TIllittee -,'¡as [lga:;_D 2s1œd to brin::-; back EJ, report
concerning t;J'le possibility of repeal of the admission tax. He said that Councilman Scheyer
had cor..tacted Washington State Citys and a fev! facts wm"'e broèlght out concerning the general
climate vJithin the state pertaining to adrilÌssion tax. AccordÜ1S to the association, about 15
years ago about fifty '¡)orcent of the citys in tho state took action to repeal the tax and since
thEt tL110 th_ore has been v ry little or no action done to rel::eal th() tax. He also stated that
Fort Angeles operats the same as Port Tormsend viith the three percent tax. Counci~_nan Hoglund
said for the secémd tine around the finance comittee still feels the same 'ilith respect to

Cmuncilman Moody said he bud checked the records :Ln the clerks office and fcund thttt the las
quarter showed an increase of $700. in admittance and if business is falling c-ff so bad could
. not see why such an increase. He also stated that he vIas sure no parent. would holler about
paying an extra three cents for a couple of hours baby sitting and therefore he was against
taking off the admission tax.
Councilman Lindsey said he generaly tries to go along with the comnittee but; this time he
ht:1.d to go along VJi th ¡-ill" Wiley and vv'Ould be in favor of taking the tax off.
Councilman Ruby l'í1ade a motion seconded by CoLL.'1cilman Lindsey that the admission tax be
repealed-- After some Yurt~ler !!1idcuss :i_on !,'Iayor S~ni th called for a vote. Counc ilmen Scheyer
Hoglund, Siebenbaum, woody voted No. Councibnan Judy, Ruby, Lindsey voted yes:. Motion did
not carry.
Councilman Judy, Chairman of the Fire & Light Comrnittee re)orted that a request for a street
light at lOth & Grant vIas checked and there Vias a need in that area for a ligb,t. Councilman
Judy made a motion seconded by CQ1,Dl.cilman Ruby ]that a vapor street light be installed as
requested. Motion carried.
Mayor Smith asked the Sewer (;:, Finance Committee to get togetheI' and make a recormnendation
f'or insurance in connection with the Se1;ver Lines, Pul'TIþing Stations and 'I'reabnEmt Center.
Counc ilman Ruby said tì1e counci 1 should look in to the ma tter of a 13&0 Tax for the Ci ty of
Port Townsend.
Mayor Smith said that Councilman Ruby was right, unless there was some other procedure
was desired by the council ~ he would refer it to the finance coillnlittee.
Councilman Hoglund co'" ented,on the B&O tax, saying that the,B 8: 0 Tax had been brought ~
before t4~ (',m:l~ '1 '.,"'-:-rB and would insure the members, of the council that one of the main U
to.pics that would be investigated by the finance ConTIni ttee vÜl'lbe a complete run down of the
13 & 0 Tax. . . .
Councilman Ruby said that he would again like to remind the pOl,vers of B about the '{vater main
that has been on fire for the past three or four years at 49th & Jaclanan.
lVœ Hansen of the Skating Rink said that he under,stood at this meeting the LLcenses on the
skating rink <:md dance licenses would be discussed. Councilman Hog¡'und said :~he committee
had discussed .the three percent tax and the licenses ¡~ut didnt arrive at doing anything with
the license part. After some further discussion no action was taken by the council.
!\ir Daly spoke before the council on the '.-vater rights of SnOlv Creek, he urged the council
to take proper steps and inform the City Attorney in taldng the proper steps :Ln securing tœ
Water rights.

Mr F:,red M. ~ighti'oot, president of Teletronics, Inc. Seattle, Washington spo:ke befor.e the
council on cable television for the .ci ty of Port Townsend, slides Vlere sJ10wn of different
locali ties in the ci ty which ~hm¥ed poor 'fV reception, it was said that the fee for cable
telev~siol1 wou~d be around 15.00 instalation charge änd 5.00 per month to be on tho cable.
The company asked for a i'ranchise to ,ins.tall 3, TV cable in the city of Port Townsend. <
Councilman Hoglund Inad~ a motion seconded by Councioman Ruby that the city attornex be instructed
to meet the represenative from the Teletronics, Inc~ fQr the purpose ~ a franchise and fQr .it
to be brought back to the council for approval. Motion carried.
Mr Robey.t Sahli, building contractor in the city of Port Townsend spoke before the council
and asked the counc il ii' they would make a study on a 'fe'll of his problems cone erning hookups fE es
He said he was being charged 75.00 for each house to connect to the trunk lin<:J thät he had put
:i.n himself. He also mentioned that he had an apärtment house vIi th eleven apar tments that would
cos t him 850.00. Mayor Smi th said it v.¡as l;;:nov/D that this problem "vas going t.) come up and tha:

that it häd been sugges ted there be a special counc il meeting and go . iato th9 overall problem~ .
After some further discussion the col.lIlcil set a date for the meeting to be held the 27th of
Feb. at 7:30 p.m.
