City Attorney ./Abraham reported on the codiftcation of' the city ordinances, saying it was
proceeding quite well, a lot of questions and recolTJ..lJ1enda tions \'iere made by the publishing
COTIlpany should be reviewed and answered before further work is done ~nd urged each councilman
to take a look at the report that was sent to the ci ty which is on file at the clerks office.

Ci ty Attorney Abraham also reported Dn the building and fire prevE:n tion code ordinance which
the council had asked him to prepare. Attorney Abrahaxn described scnne of' his orm sugges ted
changes to the uniform ordinance and recommended that the council give the ma tter further study.
Councilman Hoglund recommended that the Planning Com..'TIission give a list of' thæir recommenda-
tions of modificati~n to the uniform ordinance in detail and present it to the council as soon
as possible.
Street Supt. Arey reported on the request of ~~ Green on the probJ.em of drainage along the
wea;"þern part of Lavœence Street to the lagoon. He said that he had talked to IVIr Green and told
him that nothing could be done at this time due to finances. Mayor Sullivan asked the Street
Supt. to keep on the problem to see what could be done at a later date.
Ci ty Attonney Abraham said that he had been asked if the streets that had been torn up would
be resurfaced. IvIr Badolato, project engineer said that beginning Sept. 18th Water Street will
be permanently repaved in a two-stage project and also stated that the sewer project was movin§
along f'airly well. 0

The City Council of the City of Port Townsend "met in regular session this 19th day of Sept.,
1967 at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the city hall. Mayor Sullivan presiding.

Building Permits
.
The following building permi ts were pr esen ted and ac ted upon as follovis:
Robert Tuttle, Chur'ch, 301X501, Frame, Block No. 33, Webster Addn. "Church Of Christ", $11,000.
Dale C. Judy, Addn. to garage, 241X121, Frame, 435 Tyler, $200.00.
It was moved by Councilman Hoglund seconded by Councilman Siebenba~~ that the building permits
b~ granted. Motion carried.
NEW & OLD BUSINESS

Ci ty Attorney Abraham stated that Nlr Daly, County Attorney, was prEsent and would like to be
heard. f>'Ir Daly said that he had learned t:"at the city was [joing to levy 16 mills for the year
1968, the extra mill for the Firemen Pension c: Relief' Fund. He pointed out that :i. t ìiJould leave
the county with a projected deficit in their budget of some 35,000. Fe s3.id that the county
was allovled 40 mills by :tmv, that the3tae takes 2 m5_11s, the county 9, schools 14, the city
15, and if the city levied 16 mills it wuld leave the county short. ÑIr Daly also pointed out
that the county with its greater assessed valuation of property, one mill would be around 23,000.
one mill for the city Viould be a little over 5,000. a difference of 2,round 18,000. that vvould
not be available' to anyone if' the" ci ty levied the extra mfu11.
I'iIr Jim Sofie, County assessor also'spoke before 'the 'council, he gave each counilman a proposed
preliminary budget on millage showing cuts that he made on the city budget in millage, that in
his opinion the ci ty could get Oy on wi thout asking for the extra nÜJl.
Counc ilman Hoglund, chairman of the f'inance c onll11i t tee, said tha t the 1968 budge t ha~~ been gone
over and trilllined, and the city was useing too much surpluses and was in no position to jeopaedize
its present income. Councilman Hoglund called for a special meeting of the council at 8:00 p.m.
mhe 21st of Sept.- at the city' hall for f'urther discussion of the matter in an attempt to find
a material solution involving the county.
Mrs Floyd Imislund again inquired regarding sewer f'acilities for the Dundee Hill area. Residen~
Engineer Frank Badolato reported that the firm of Carey and Kramer is now in the process of
surveying the area and compiling a plan which should be comple&ed in November with a view toward
obtaining federal funds.
