AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING SECTION
2.04.010, BUSINESS MEETINGS, CHAPTER 2.04, CITY COUNCIL RULES, OF
THE PORT TOYfNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE, CHANGING THE COUNCIL
MEETING TIME FROM 6:00 PM TO 6:30 PM
WHEREAS, at a regularly schedule meeting on June 3, 1996, the City Council adopted
Ordinance 2529, changing the council meeting time from 7:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m.; and
WI-IEREAS, RCW 35A. 12.120 requires that "The council shall determine its own rules
and order of business,..." and empowers councils to enforce its rules of proceedings; and
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend City Council deems it appropriate and necessary to
change the Council meeting time on the first and third Mondays of the month from 6:00 p.m. to
6:30 p.m.,
NOW, ~RE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, in regular session
assembled, ordains as follows:
SECTION 1. section 2.04.010, Business meetings - Attendance, Chapter 2.04, Port
Townsend City Council Rules, is hereby amended to read as follows:
2.04,010 ' Business meetings - Attendance.
A. Regular city council business meetings are held twice monthly and are scheduled
on the first and third Mondays of the month at 6:~, 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
When council meeting dates fall on a legal holiday, the meeting shall be held on the next day that
is not a legal holiday, at 6:00 6:30 p.m.
B. Special city council meetings may be called to conduct city business as needed in
accordance with proper notification requirements of state law.
C. City council members are expected to attend all regular and special meetings of the
city council unless excused by the mayor due to illness or other compelling reasons.

SECTION 2. Severability. If any clause, sentence, paragraph, section or part of this
Ordinance or its application to any person or circumstance is held to be invalid or unconstitutional
by a court of competent jurisdiction, such order or judgment shall not affect the validity or
constitutionality of the remainder of any part of this Ordinance. To this end, the provisions of
each clause, sentence, paragraph, section or part of this law are declared severable.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five days after the date of its passage,
approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second, and third times and passed by the City Council of the City of
Port Townsend, Washington, at a regular meeting thereof, held this 7th day of July, 1997.
