AN ORDINANCE OF TIlE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING SECTION
10.04.190, TWO-HOUR PARKING LIMIT, CHAPTER 10.04, PARKING, OF THE
PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE, CHANGING PARKING LIMITATIONS
FOR MADISON STREET, BETWEEN WATER STREET AND WASHINGTON
STREET FROM 24-HOUR TO TWO-HOUR PARKING
WHEREAS, prior to the effective date of this ordinance, 24-hour parking has been
permitted on Madison Street between Water Street and Washington Street; and
WItE~, the City Council wishes to discourage workers, employees and other long-
term vehicle parking on Madison Street between Water Street and Washington Street, in order to
preserve parking spaces for commercial retail customers, and for usage by museum patrons; and
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend City Council's Transportation Committee has held public
meetings, and solicited public comments regarding changing this section of Madison Street to a
two-hour parking limitation; and
WFIE~, the Transportation Committee unanimously recommends to the whole City
Council that this ordinance be adopted to revise parking allowed on Madison Street between Water
Street and Washington Street,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council cf the City of Port Townsend does ordain as
follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 10.04, Parking, Section 10,04.190, Two-hour parking limit, of the
Port Townsend Municipal Code is hereby mended to read as follows:
10.04.190 Two-hour parking limit.
It shall be unlawful for any person to stand or park any motor vehicle continuously at the same
place for more than two hours between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on any day except
Sundays and holidays, on the following described streets of the city:
1. On Water Street from Harrison Street to Madison Street;
2. On Taylor Street from Front Street to Washington Street;
3, On Adams Street from Front Street to Washington Street;
4. On Washington Street from Tyler Street to Quincy Street;
5. On Lawrence Street from Polk Street to Taylor Street;
6. On Tyler Street from Washington Street to Front Street and from Lincoln Street to Clay Street;
7. On Quincy Street from Washington Street to Water Street;
8. On Polk Street from Water Street to Washington StreetLailllv
9. On Madison Street; between Water Street and Washington Street.

SECTION 2. Sevembility. If any provision of this ordinance or its application to any
person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the application of the
provision to other persons or circumstances is not affected.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five daYs after the date of its publication
in the manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second, and third times and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Port TownSend, Washington, at a regular meeting thereof, held this 18th day of May, 1998.
