AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON TO ADD
SECTION 10.04.192 ESTABLISHING EIGHT- HOUR PARKING ON CALHOUN
STREET BETWEEN WATER AND FRONT STREETS ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDE
OF THE STREET, AMEND SECTION 10.04.190 ADDING CALHOUN STREET
BETWEEN WATER AND FRONT STREETS ON THE NORTHEAST SIDE OF THE
STREET TO THE TWO HOUR PARKING LOCATIONS IN THE CITY, AND AMEND
SECTION 10.04.202 ADDING A NO PARKING ZONE ON SR20 FROM THE FERRY
TERMINAL TO KEARNEY STREET
WHEREAS, Sims Way (SR20) along the Bluff Corridor (Washington Street to
the ferry terminal) has limited pavement width and currently has inadequate shoulder
width on the north side of the road to accommodate bicycles and on the south side of the
road to accommodate both parked vehicles and bicycles; and
WHEREAS, City Council has previously deliberated this matter at council study
sessions and a council business session and directed the City staff to provide alternatives
with respect to parking on SR 20 between the ferry dock and Keamey Street taking into
account safety, business and residential parking, efficient management of ferry traffic,
and non-motorized transportation impacts; and
WHEREAS, eliminating parking on this section of SR 20 would allow for
correct line-of-sight distances for pedestrian and vehicular traffic transiting the area, safer
bicycle passage, and improve the efficiency of ferry traffic management during peak
traffic periods; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is
completing a pavement overlay project in the summer 2001 and as part of that roadway
work they will be restriping the lanes along this corridor to widen the shoulder area on the
north side of the roadway;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains as
follows:
SECTION 1.
Add 10.04.192 Eight Hour Parking
It shall be unlawful for any person to stand or park any motor
vehicle continuously at the same place for more than eight hours
on the following described streets:
a. Calhoun Street between Water Street and Front Street on
the southwest side of the street

SECTION 2.
Amend 10.04.190 Two Hour Parking
(add) M. Calhoun Street between Water Street and Front Street on
the northeast side of the street.
SECTION 3.
Amend 10.04.202 No Parking
(add) c. No parking shall be permitted at any time on SR20 from
the ferry terminal to Kearney Street, unless making authorized
deliveries in the designated loading zone between Benton and
Pierce Streets.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this 4th day of June, 2001.
