This change will not adversely affect the ability of the tenants in spaces #404A and #404B to control the temperature in thcir respective spaces. 2. This change will not adversely affect the operation of the rooftop unit that serves these tenant spaces. . 3. The common hallway will no longer be conditioned by this system and temperature contro] in this area will be affected, Based on the above, if you are comfortable with reduced temperature control in the common hallway, we are not concerned with the proposed ducting revisions. Baker Bldg. 4* Floor HVAC Piping Removal & Fire Wall Repair Ce: None Ed Sherman from the Mt. Baker Bldg. at Taylor and Water Sts. has requested a written determination for a small HVAC project’s compliance with the International Fire Code. The subject HVAC element on fourth floor was part of a modern remodel under the 1997 U.B.C., BLD97-119 issued 12-15-97 and signed off on 11-17-98. The HVAC piping on the fourth floor Suite ag A & Bextended the HVAC ducts through the rated room walls and into the hallway. It was reported that the primary HVAC system is fitted with smoke dampers. Mr. Sherman has requested to remove the piping legs that feed from the rooms to the hallway, due to mechanical problems, and the cost of replacement, and that they were only needed to move air in the hallway in the first place. Since the corridor is a rated corridor, with fire doors., this HVAC penetration[s] of the rated wall assembly would be better served if the penetration were removed, and the wall refinished. As you are aware, a building permit must be secured for this removal, and the remaining openings sealed in compliance with the International Building Code. Provided that the proposed work receives a building permit, and the work is field inspected by the City, then I find the project in compliance with Section 703 “Fire Resistance-Rated Construction” of the International Fire Code, 2010 edition. Mr. Sherman needs to have a copy of this written recommendation so that his contractor [s]will do the removal and closure work for the ducting. His fax number is 385-2667 and cell phone is 643-1807, and office number is 385-7275.
