Live Load — Uniform 100 psf Wind Load — 85 mph MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION All material and construction shall conform to the specifications and the following: STRUCTURAL STEEL ASTM A36 galvanized ALUMINUM Aluminum for gangway shall conform to 6061—T6 unless otherwise noted. Aluminum pipe for rails shall be 6063—T6. Modification to the gangway as detailed shall conform to the latest revisions of the Aluminum Design Manual and all applicable standards as set forth by the Aluminum Association. Edges shall be cut true, smooth and free of burrs. Flame cutting is not permitted. Holes for bolts shall be drilled or punched. Corner edges shall be ground smooth. Weld spatter and flash marks shall be removed and ground smooth. Mill stamps and markings shall be removed from all exposed surfaces. No finish is required on aluminum surfaces. ALUMINUM_WELDING Per AWS D1.2. All welders shall be qualified per AWS for the type of welding anticipated. BOLTS All bolts shall be ASTM A325, hot-dip galvanized unless otherwise noted. Washers shall be used under both head and nut of all bolts. GALVANIZING All steel and hardware shall be hot—dipped galvanized per ASTM A123 or A153 after fabrication unless otherwise noted. DISSIMILAR ISOLATION Isolation washers & bushings shall be used between dissimilar metals. All HDPE pipe shall be installed to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. The pipe shall be fused by an individual certified by the pipe supplier or fusion machine manufacturer. Installers shall be prepared to show certification when requested by Owner. All pipes shall have fusion welded or flanged joints according to ASTM D3261. All fusion welding of pipe shall be done in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Fused joints shall exhibit small, smooth, well-rounded joint beads. Joints with sharp edged, irregular or particularly large beads will be rejected and replaced at Contractor's expense. FLEX HOSES Flexible hose and fittings at gangways shall meet the same pressure and integrity standards as the rigid pipe. Hose shall be flexible and of sufficient length to adjust to maximum and minimum tide ranges. The fire line hose shall be Goodyear Super Black Flexwing, or Engineer—approved equal, with compatible fittings. The water flex hoses shall be Goodyear White Flexwing, or equivalent. Both ends of the flex hose shall have a swivel connection. Fittings at ends of flex hose shall be type 316 stainless steel hydraulically—crimped with interlocking ferrules. Contact International Belt (800-426-5525). FIRE SYSTEM COMPONENTS All sections of the fire line shall be rated for 250 psi. Fire department inlet connections shall be Storz 4—inch connections, according to plans and City of Port Townsend standard details. All Fire department inlet connections and fire hose connections shall have 6—inch wide red circumferential retroflective tape. Retroreflective tape shall be 3M Marine Grade USCG High Intensity Reflective Adhesive Tape or Engineer—approved equivalent. Tape shall be color and size noted in these drawings. Sample to be submitted for approval to East Jefferson Fire & Rescue. Fire Extinguishers shall be a 20 Ib unit with a UL rating of 2A:20B:C, or equivalent. Fire extinguisher cabinets shall be “Tough Guy” as manufactured by Cheyenne Mfg., (800-424-7575) or equivalent. Final locations for all cabinets shall be determined in the field by the Engineer. Cabinets shall not be installed prior to Engineer's approval of a final location on the floats. WATER SYSTEM COMPONENTS: The HDPE potable water pipe shall be meet AWWA C901. All fittings shall be brass waterworks flare fittings, compatible with the tubing material. Pipe shall be rated for 150 psi min. The hose bibbs shall be Woodford Model 26, with brass finish and metal wheel handle. Isolation valves on the water line shall be PVC ball valves with flanged connections. Attach metal labels to the top of the rubstrip above the valve. STEEL PIPE AND FITTINGS All steel pipes shall be schedule 40 hot—dipped galvanized steel, conforming to ASTM A5J with threaded, butt—welded, or roll-grooved ends. All damaged surfaces shall be recoated with cold—galvanizing. MISCELLANEOUS STEEL The pipe hanger assemblies, riser brackets, life ring and fire extinguisher stands, and all miscellaneous steel components shall consist of hot—dipped galvanized A36 (min) steel, per ASTM A123. Provide six extra pipe hangers to the Port. f Fire system information signs shall be made of 10 gauge aluminum sheet. All signs shall be secured to the device ~6r railing with substantial and corrosion—resistant 316 S.S. fasteners or chain. LIFE RINGS Life ring cabinets shall be standard size and color as manufactured by Cheyenne Manufacturing, Inc., or Engineer—approved equivalent. Each cabinet shall be equipped with a U.S. Coast Guard approved life ring and attached rope. Cabinets shall be standard color with mounting hardware suitable to attach to the combined fire extinguisher and life ring cabinet stand and shall have a non—locking "T—Handle” entry. Final locations for all cabinets shall be determined in the field by the Engineer. Cabinets shall not be installed prior to Engineer's approval of a final location on the floats. PRESSURE TESTING AND DISINFECTION The fire line shall be pressure tested and flow tested in accordance with the City of Port Townsend and East Jefferson Fire & Rescue requirements. The potable water line shall be purged and pressure tested in accordance with the City of Port Townsend and other applicable local and state regulations. Any visible leaks are to be repaired regardless of the amount of leakage at Contractor’s expense. The potable water line shall be disinfected in accordance with the City of Port Townsend and other applicable local and state procedures, or if not prescribed, AWWA C651. Water samples in sterile bottles shall be submitted to the local health department, and obtain satisfactory test report prior to placing system in service. The Contractor shall conduct all testing and disinfection under the supervision of the Engineer prior to final connection to the existing water supply.
