HomeMy WebLinkAboutWater Distribution Seasonal Maintenance Worker City of Port Townsend Job Description Water Distribution Seasonal Maintenance Worker Classification title: Maintenance Worker Working title: Water Distribution Seasonal Maintenance Worker Department: Public Works – Water Distribution Union: Non-represented FLSA status: Non-exempt Wage Classification: $24.52/hour Hours: 40 Effective date: June 2024; Feb. 2025, Jan. 2026 Reports to: Operations Manager – Water; Water Distribution Crew Chief Civil Service: No JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs a variety of maintenance and repair work to the water distribution systems and the Olympic Gravity Water System (OGWS). The City of Port Townsend strives to provide a quality reliable infrastructure looking toward a sustainable future. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Replaces water meters  Participates as a member of the Public Works team to maintain the City’s water distribution system including pumps, pipes, hydrant, meters, reservoirs, and valves  Assists with maintenance and repairs at the Water Treatment Facility  Assists with maintenance and repairs of the Olympic Gravity Water System  Performs grounds maintenance at Water Department facilities  Provides support for other divisions and departments during emergencies  Performs water system flushing (hydrant flushing)  Provides essential services as a front-line worker and supports the division with laborer work  Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  Works well in a team environment  Demonstrates the ability to effectively interact with the public  Communicates efficiently and effectively with team members, managers, and other departments, both verbally and in writing, using tact, patience and courtesy to convey instructions, provide feedback, receive feedback, and resolve issues  Collaborates with team members to resolve problems in a timely manner  Demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of people  Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, such as shifting priorities, unexpected challenges, or variations in the workload, while maintaining composure and effectiveness  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, management, peers, customers, and the public Water Distribution Seasonal Maintenance Worker  Ability to operate equipment and tools following oral and written instructions  Ability to remove and replace water meters  Ability to use hand tools to dig holes for infrastructure repair and replacement  Ability to accurately record activities and field notes on both electronic and handwritten formats  Ability to adhere to WISHA and DOSH health and safety requirements in the workplace  Ability to safely operate City vehicles  Ability to perform meter reading and use reading equipment  Ability to assist in performing leak detection and repair  Ability to perform grounds maintenance of facilities  Ability to use City GIS maps to locate water and collect data for asset management  Ability to operate GPS equipment for asset inventories and mapping QUALIFICATIONS Required  Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.  Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.  Must pass criminal background check.  Valid Washington State Driver’s license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier. Preferred  Water Distribution Manager 1 certification  Current flaggers card  Current First Aid/CPR certification  2+ years’ experience working in waterworks, plumbing, construction or related field WORKING CONDITIONS This position requires being onsite working in the field primarily in the outdoors during all types of weather; repeated walking, bending, stooping and lifting; the ability to occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.; vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected); and a full range of motor skills. This position may require working in confined spaces and require climbing and working at heights up to 100 feet.
