HomeMy WebLinkAboutStreets/Stormwater/Sewer Seasonal Maintenance Worker City of Port Townsend Job Description Streets/Stormwater/Sewer Seasonal Maintenance Worker Classification title: Seasonal Maintenance Worker Working title: Streets/Stormwater/Sewer Seasonal Maintenance Worker Department: Public Works Union: No FLSA status: Non-exempt Wage Classification: $24.52 hourly Hours: 40 Effective date: Feb. 2024; Feb. 2025; Jan. 2026 Reports to: Crew Chief or S/S/S Operations Manager Civil Service: No JOB SUMMARY Performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to repair work to various streets, wastewater collection and stormwater collection. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Assists in patching roads, loading, raking and shoveling asphalt.  Assists in the maintenance and repairs of wastewater and storm water facilities.  Performs a variety of routine repair and maintenance tasks on equipment and reports the need for major repairs.  Safely operates portable equipment and small hand and power tools.  Performs landscaping within the right-of-way  Performs additional construction and maintenance tasks such as vegetation control, striping, signing, sewer and stormwater system cleaning, garbage control, right of way maintenance, sweeping, snow removal, pothole patching, special projects, and other duties as assigned  Serves as a flagger for traffic control.  Assists in the painting of street parking and crosswalks.  Sets out and take down traffic control devices.  Manually removes unwanted weeds from rights-of-way and developed landscapes and/or native areas.  Tracks work activities in online work order system  Other related duties as assigned by the Crew Chief or Operations Manager. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  Communicates efficiently and effectively with team members, managers, and other departments, both verbally and in writing, using tact, patience and courtesy to convey instructions, provide feedback, receive feedback, and resolve issues.  Collaborates with team members to resolve problems in a timely manner.  Demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of people.  Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, such as shifting priorities, unexpected challenges, or variations in the workload, while maintaining composure and effectiveness.  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, management, peers, customers, and the public.  Ability to operate equipment and tools following oral and written instructions.  Ability to adhere to WISHA and DOSH health and safety requirements in the workplace.  Ability to maintain daily work activity records using a computer.  Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers.  Ability to perform physical work outdoors under all weather conditions. QUALIFICATIONS Required  Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.  Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.  Valid Washington driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.  Must pass criminal background check. Preferred  Prior streets, stormwater, or sewer experience.  Experience working with construction equipment.  Experience in a public setting.  Washington State Flagger certification course.  First Aid\CPR certification. WORKING CONDITIONS  Duties are performed primarily in the outdoors during all types of weather.  Walking for extended periods of time.  Repeated bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.  Ability to lift, push and pull 60 pounds.  Vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected).  Physical and visual ability sufficient to perform required duties effectively and safely and to safely operate required equipment and City vehicle as needed.  Requires full range of motor skills and dexterity to operate handheld tools.
