HomeMy WebLinkAboutFacilities Seasonal Maintenance Worker City of Port Townsend Job Description Facilities Seasonal Maintenance Worker Classification title: Seasonal Maintenance Worker Working title: Facilities Seasonal Maintenance Worker Department: Community Services Union: No FLSA status: Non-exempt Wage Classification: $24.52 hourly Hours: 40 Effective date: Feb. 2024; Feb. 2025; Jan. 2026 Reports to: Crew Chief or Facilities and Parks Manager Civil Service: No JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs custodial maintenance duties and general cleanliness procedures for public buildings. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Custodial duties include but not limited to dusting, mopping, trash removal, sanitizing, cleaning of windows, buffing of floors, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, litter pickup, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies. • Performs maintenance and repair activities to City facilities including painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and concrete work. • Safely operates portable equipment and small hand and power tools necessary to maintain City properties. • Performs routine maintenance tasks to custodial equipment and supplies. • Cleans and maintains public restrooms, picnic shelters, picnic tables, garbage cans and other facilities. • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal. • Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas • Tracks work activities in online work order system • Other related duties as assigned by the Crew Chief or Facilities & Parks Manager. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures. • Knowledge of occupational safety rules. • Demonstrates integrity and ability to work independently. • Communicates efficiently and effectively with team members, managers, and other departments, both verbally and in writing, using tact, patience and courtesy to convey instructions, provide feedback, receive feedback, and resolve issues. • Collaborates with team members to resolve problems in a timely manner. • Demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of people. • Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, such as shifting priorities, unexpected challenges, or variations in the workload, while maintaining composure and effectiveness. • Ability to learn and follow schedules, carry out instructions, and work cooperatively with other staff. • Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time. • Ability to use cleaning equipment and safely handle cleaning chemicals. • Ability to perform duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner. • Ability to identify safety, repair, and maintenance issues at each location worked. • Ability to organize and enter work orders as necessary. • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co- workers, management, peers, customers, and the public. • Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers. • Ability to operate equipment and tools following oral and written instructions. • Ability to adhere to WISHA and DOSH health and safety requirements in the workplace. • Ability to maintain daily work activity records using a computer. • Ability to work weekends throughout duration of seasonal term. QUALIFICATIONS Required • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire. • Valid Washington driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier. • Must pass criminal background check. Preferred • Experience working with basic janitorial equipment and hand tools. • Experience using a maintenance management software program. • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification. • Current Bloodborne Pathogens Certification. WORKING CONDITIONS This position requires being onsite working indoors and outdoors during all types of weather; repeated walking, bending, stooping, and lifting; standing for long periods of time; the ability to occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.; vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected); and a full range of motor skills.
