J. Carroll, d/b/a, Townsend Transit Company, a permit to operate buses over and along the streets of Port Townsend. This was a 90 day permit find the sum of 4100.00 was as id therefor, r 1 ry It is respectfully requested on behalf of said Townsend Transit Gompnny that this , permit be extended to the 1st day of October, 1950, with the understanding that the e. fees already paid cover the extension requested. The matter presented in the foregoing comatunicution was discussal for a considerable ' period of time by members of the Council and members of the Gallery,with many expressing themselves as favoring a very nominal license fee,or none at all because of the nature of service rendered the public. Members of the Council stated that considerable mislnformntion @@ hnd been given out from various sources with respect to prior action by the Comcil in this .a matter, thnt there was no desire upon the part of any member of the Council to penalize this j operation, and that final determination of fee was subject to presentEdon,by Mr. Carroll,of "R a form of Franchise for consideration of the Councill)(as previously requested by the Council - r From the Chamber of Commerce, to -wit: a Honorable Mayor & City Council January 16, 1950 Port Tovrnsend, Washington Gentlemen: r The Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce Trustees in regular meeting this dnte passed the �v) following motion. To respectfully petition your Body to grant to the Tbwnsend Transit �H Co. ❑ permit to operate in the City of Port Townsond for the year 1950 free if possible but not to exceed a10.00 per bus per year. � � M Many citizens and bus users have contacted our members and the Secretary, commenting on the great advantage 'and service that the bus line has rendered to them. Therefa•e our organization feels very strongly that your body should do everything possible to keeps Wy this bus line operating. Thanking you for your consideration. C. Minaker.and Isabelle M1. Minaker, f(r the vacation of portions of 26th and 27th streets; the City Clerk read the notice of hearing together with Affidavit of Posting off same, as follows: NOTICE OF HEARING PETITION FOR VACATION OF PORTIONS OF STREETS H. C. Minaker and Isabelle M. Minaker, husband and wife, having heretofore filed with the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, their petition seeking the vaca- � tion of the portions of those certain streets in the City of Port Townsend herein- , after more particularly described and said City Council having fixed 7:30 olclock 4 P.M. on Tuesday, the 17th of January, 1950, in the Council Chambers at the City Hall - in the City of Port Townsend, as the time and place for the hearing of said petition, now therefore, z . .. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at said time and place any ;person or prsons may appear and be heard for or, against the proposed vacation. I v A particular description of such portions of streets is as follows, to -wit:(' Those portions of 26th and 27th Streets from the easterly line g " ofCliff Street to the abutting acreage and those portions of 26th and 27th Streets from the westerly line of Eddy Street to the easterly line of Howard Street, all in Johnston's addition to the City of Port , Townsend. Christian, being first duly sworn on oath, deposes and says that at all j times hereinafter mentioned he was and now is the duly elected, qualified and act- { - ing City Clark of the City of Port Townsend; that on the 8th day of December, 1949, - he posted notices (of which the annexed is a full, true and correct copy) in three c3 of the most public places in the City of Port Townsend, Jefferson County, Washington, to -wit: one at the front door of the City Hall; one at the front door of the Jefferson County Courthouse; and one at the corner of Water and Taylor Streets; and a like copy of said notice in a conspicuous place on each portion of the street sought to be vacated. Daly Notary Public in and for the State of 1 Washington, residing at Port Taxnsend F _ Mayor Pro-Tem Sullivan stated that the purpose of this hearing was to give any, citizen the opportunity to be heard for or against the proposed vacation; and inquired if there were any present who wishfo speak for or against the vacation of streets as requested Vacation Granted 'In the absence of any objection to the ppnposed street vacation, it was moved by Council - man Gleason, and seconded by Councilman Eronimo, that same be granted. Upon Roll Call vote all seven Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS h Upon motion by Councilman Meuller, seconded by.Councilman Steele, and carried by voice 't vote of the members present, the Council at this time reverted to the order of business "Ordinances and Resolutions".
