From E. Y. Starrett, Postmaster, to -wit:
Port 'Townsend, Vinsh
July 6, 1949
To The Honorable Yayor and Gityy Council
of the City of Port Townsend, 1ashington
I
Gentlemen:
Your attention is respectfully called to the lack of proper, or correct, street
numbers in the downtown business district of the city in particular.
I
Your official assistance to correct this situation, which not only results in
mail delivery delays and errors, but which confuses new residents and visitors, is
requested.
Your city engineer could consult, the official fire maps, and in a short survey
furnish the city clerk or proper authority with the correct numbers for each and every
business house or space.
With thattaction taken, this office would request eachi.business house or owner to
erect the proper street numbers at each place.
3'e have already contacted most of those to be directly eft'ected, and find them
willing to cooperate.
Later we may propose such an action for the main residential section, but c.,e now
find that it is now in very good condition in this matter, and that there is no urf.ency
We will be glad to cooperate in any way in this matter, and await your suggestion
or call.
Yours respectfully
E. W.. Starrett, Postmaster.
This communication was referred to the street Committee and City Engineer, for investi•
gation and report.
