HomeMy WebLinkAbout00578 session. (9)500 1 ' I I The matter presented in Mr. Carder's letter was discussed briefly and it was suggests by Counci lman Mueller that in as much as it was probable that many of the dogs followed children to school best results might be obtained by a form letter from the school sent home with the children. From R. S. Adams, to -wit: City of Port 'Townsend Port Townsend, Wn. Port Townsend, Wash. Larch 1, 1949 Gentlemen: Upon taking over the duties of "City Poundmaster", I was under the impression that all stray dogs and dogs brought in for euthanasia were to be paid for b}, the city except where dogs were sold for the board bill - regardless of whether they were brought in by the police or the general public. It so happens that a high percentage of these dogs are brought in by kind-hearte persons hoping that they will be decently cared for - pebple who do not themselves ow: the dogs, but are good enough to take them in off the streets. On the other had, the city police have probably picked up an average of one or too dogs per month. Now 1 find that 1 an supposed to charge full prive for euthanasia to all persons except the police, an arrangement which under ordinary circumstances would be satisfactory. but I understand that the police are actually shooting some stray doge and are asking people to bring them to the pound themselves. Since this arrangement is not in accordance with my ideas as to the management of a city pound, and since I cannot honestly charge non -owners of dogs for being decent enough to want dogs taken care -.of humanely, and since I believe under these r(Wlatfon: the city pound is worthless and not necessary, I wish to tender my resignation as CiCy Poundmaster effective as of today. Very respectfully R. S. Adams. Resignation accepted. The matter of the operation of the pound was discussed for a short p§riod, and Mayor Anderson stated that he would accept the resignation tendered by Db. Adams as he did not feel that it would be fair to auk Dr. Adams to continue whet: he did not wish to do so. Further discussion and consideration of the matter of dogs running at large was table until the next regular session. From J. b. Steve, and E. h.
