Councilman itueller stated that certain facilities were now accessible only through the room in question and that it was his opinion thnt suhh facilities should remain open to use by the city ofl'Iclals and employees and to the public, within reason. Councilman Steele concurred with Councilman Liu,+ller in this matter but stated that he felt that Changes could be made to provide such facilities as would be necessary. Upon roll call vote Councilmen Steele, Gleason, Sullivan, and Paddock voted in the affirn+ative upon the above motion and Councilman 6:ueller voted in the negative and motion was declared carried. From Mr. &Mrs. Daniel Vi• Sutton, to=rrit: Gentlemen of the City Council' Fort Tov.nsend, Washington Dear Sirs: i'e the undersigned, protest the proposed vacation ofCChestnut Street from 'IV!!, to U". Vle are property owners on that block, and Chestnut Street is out only outlet from that side. Such vacation, If granted, would seriously devaluate our property as we would be fenced in so to speak. Hoping the Council Will grant out request and keep Chestnut Street upon. "!e remain Very Eespectrully yours, Daniel LI. mutton, L;rs. Denial hi. Sutton. This communication was tabled for future reference. From Edwnrd Johnson, to -wit: November 19, 1948 City Council of Port Townsend, '':ash. Dear Sirs: I am respectfully requesting that ";:" Street be openidtfrom Talnut Street to Cherry Street. This will give an entrance to the kart from any approach and will take much traffic off the other two streets that lead direct to Fort. As it is now I do not even have a street to my house, but a dead end lane;, and as a result from 50 to 100 cars are forced to turn around in my yard each .leek, most of which are looking for the fort gate. There will be little if any grading to do. If you wish to ask any questions I will be at the meeting. _ Yours resuactfullyy, Edward Johnson This conm;unication was refereed to the Street Comriittee for further investigation and report. From Olympic lirdwe. & Furniture Co., to -wit: December 6, 1940 Port Tavnsend City Council Port Townzend, Washington Gentlemen: 'lie have completed the bulkhead and fill on 'ashington Street in front of ou building. It is nor., pretty well settled. Therefore, we will now want to put in the new walk very shortly. i3efore we go on with this work we want to know the width that the sidewalk should be laid. We •would like to suggest that an eight foot walk be adopted for Washington St. inasmuch as this would give the public elgi.t more feet of roadway. This vrould be a great convealence and it would permits diagonal parking on this street which would allow for Over twice as many cars in the area. We alwo note that after all rein storms the water collects in pools on the East s13e of Washington Street in front of bur building and the corner. It does not Crain off because the street at the corner is higher than the middle 6f the block.. Further more there is no catch basin in the corner to take care of water. This makes the condition rather bed for foot traffic. Of course, this will be eliminated when the new walk is installed but it will not take care of draining; off the water after the new curb in installed. Thanking you for considering this request and trust that you will advise us as soon as possible as to the width of the walk that should be laind.
