Street Sunt. Arey stated for information of the Council that the water spoken of in the
proceeding so
am:unication was surface drainage water which collected at this point because
of the fact that the surrounding area was all higher.
The matter presented in Mr. Nage3's letter was roforrod to the Committee on Streets &
sewers for investigation and report.

Petition is hereby, made for the vacatlon of that Portion of Cass street from the
Southerly •boundary of 'later Street to the Southerly uoundary of clocks 145 and 146 of
L. B. Hastings first addition to the Oity of Port 'Townsend.
y;e are the owners of all the lots on both sides of the street sought to be vacated
".a are prepared and will pay all the incidental costs should this petition receive
favorable consideration.
In this connection we 6urther offer for your consideration the propriety of pro-
viding further sea wall protection to all that portion of Water Stre t subject to
South Last Storms. 'Ne are informed that the same may be carried through on a local
Improvement district basis. Please consider this petition as inititory in this respect

With reference to the above cocm:unieation 'ater erupt. Lockhart reported that upon
confering with the sire Chief it had been determined that the proper location for the new
fire hydrant authorized at the last session would be at the intersection of Cass and eater
Streets.
This communication was refereed to the Corsnittee on Streets and Sewers for resort at
a later session.
From Association of "'ash. Cities.
The City Clerk reported receipt of bulletins from the Association of 'Nash. Cities;
noting that the date of January 26 had been set for hearing by the legislative interim
committee on highways, streets and br`il;es on the needs for the district comprising Clallam
and Jefferson Counties; and these bulletins were ordered filed for reference.

A pros:osed ordinance providing for the appropriation of additional monies for the City
Street Fund for the year 1948 visa presented and read in full for the first reeding at this
time as follows:

AN JhDI1.ANC? providing for the appropriation of money for the City Street °und for
expenditure during the year of 1948 and declaring an emergency.
'IHERfiAS, at the time of the adoption of the official budget for the City Street
Fund of the city of Port Townsend for the year of 1948, the necessity of acquiring
additional lard for the purpose of a gravel pit did not appear, but the same should
be now acquired, and,
,'HFhEAS, no funds were appropriated for the purpose aforesaid but such appropria ion
should be non made in the sum of $500.00, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT T9,7NSEND DO ORDAIN as follo'r,s:
Section 1. That an emergency is hereby found and declared to exist requiring th
immediate appropriation of money for expenditure during the year 1948 in the sum of
,B500.00 for the purpose of acquiring, by deed, the following described lands and
premises in the "ity of Port 'Town send, more particularly described as fo_loxs, to -,.,.,it:
Lots, 1, 2, 3, & 4 in block 47 of California Addition to said city
Section 2. Upon receipt by said city of a merchantable title to the real estat
hereinbefore described, the Lity Clerk of said city be and he is hereby authorised to
execute erergency warvants not exceeding said sum upon the presentation of a properly
approved voucher.
Section 3. That this ordinance be published once in the Port 'Townsend Leader t
be in force and take effect five days from and after the date of such publication.
