Re: Extending Term of Department Supervisor
Councilman Sullivan introduced the matter of the near expiration of ordinance No. 1208
which provided for a trial period of six months of the office known as the Department of
Public Services and Public Property. Councilman Sullivan expressed his dissatisfaction With
the operation of the various departments concerned under this system and stated that he
felt that the previous status should be resumed.
Councilman Carroll spoke in favor of continuation of the new systen inasmuch as a
great deal more work had been accomplished in a very satisfactory manner. Councilman
uleason stated that it appeared that much of the dimatisfaction referred to$10ouncilman
Sullivan had been with reference to the operation of the Street Department, and it was his
opinion that anyone presenting a complaint about work of the Street Department should be
advised to present the matter to the members of the Committee of Streets and Sewers for
their consideration.
Councilman Benedetto gave it as his opinion that Lir. Lockhart who had filled the newly
created postion during the past six months had accomplished a great deal of good work but
that the responsibilities and efforts required of such an office were too much to be ex-
pected of any one individual and the City should therefore revert to the former system.
Councilman Osborne stated that he felt that it would be best for the operation of the
City departments to be placed back upon the prior basis.
Yayor Anderson stated, with regard to subject under discussion, that the system now in
effect had made possible a saving of considerable money in the operation of departments
covered by the ordinance and cited certain specific examples of such savings. No direct
or specific action •rras taken by the Council upon the matter at this time.
AJOURIIXENT
As it appeared that there was no further business to present to the Council for their
consideration at this timerit was moved by Councilman Carroll and seconded by Councilman
Gleason that the Council do now ajourn. Motion carried.
