City Attorney City Attorney Daly made a verbal report as follows: Mayor Anderson, last Saturday, had •eferred to him a letter from the State Census Board requesting certain information upon whi could be based this Cityts population as of April 1, 1947 for the purpose of allocating cer- ;ain state collected monies to the various cities; and asking that the report be submitted ty August 10. Under the plans as submitted by the Census Board the city could make an actual count, 'or which adequate proper forms would be provided by the state, or an estimate might be made lased upon certain stipulated factors which were enumerated by Mr. Daly. Mr. Daly stated ;hat he had called officials of the City of Port Angeles and had been informed that that cit; could present an estimate. Mr. Daly stated further that the State Census Board preferred that an actual count be ;aken but in view of the cost of making an actual count he felt that the Council should letermine which method should be used by this City. The Council discussed this matter at some length with particular attention being given ;o the cost of making an actual count and the short period of time remaining before date for submission of report. Following said discussion it was moved by Councilman Gleason and seconded by Councilman Carroll that the Mayor prepare an estimate of this Cities population upon the factors out- lined by the State Census Board for submission to said board without making an actual count. Motion carried. 0
