Under this order of business a general informal discussion was held upon several sub-

jects principle of which ::ere as follows: Councilman Denedetto inquired as to the in-
I stallation of additional street lights as athorized by the Council and was advised thatr
materials for such installation are as yet not available. City Attorney Daly remarked that
,I the condition of this city's streets had been the subject of favorable ootr:nent by many
ii visitors. Mayor Anderson urged th•-t the department heads give Immediate and careful con- rt�s is K e
sideration to budget estimates for the year 1948 and this wqs followed by discussion relativ
f to the business valuation and necessary levies by the city for the year 1948.
Mayor Anderson called upon ter. Merle Hufford, state representative for this district, i rhf n11
i� for a few remarks and Mr. Hufford responded by stating that it visa a pleasure to hear a
IIIIII governmental group plan to reduce tax levys at a time when the general trend is toward an
f increase in taxes.
#t City Engineer Keith Jones reported that the crushed rock for this years street sorfacir,3
f program has arrived and has been stock piled and that negotiations are under way for laying ` sru"
of same and he felt that this work could probably be completed in August. Street Supt. i
Lyall Arey stated that he had made numerous inquiries upon the subject and to date had
found no other city where street improvement. work of this type was done without assessmentf
against the abutting property.

The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port 'Townsend, Washington, met in regular session this
fifth day of August, 1947, at 7:30 0 clock P.M., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall,
;ayor H. E. Anderson presiding.
ROLL CALL
Officers and Members answering present to roll call were as follows: Mayor H. E.
A derson; City Attorney, W. J. Daly; City Clerk, C. F. Christian; and Councilmen Goo. r'.
M eller, H. E. Gleason, A. Benedetto, and Goo. J. Osborne and J. M. Carroll; Councilmen
Ralph Steele and Dennis Sullivan arriving during the session.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS SESSION
Sullivan arrives.
Councilman Sullivan arrived during the reading of the minutes of the previous session
and took cart in the proceedings thereafter.
The minutes of the previous session were read in full and following such reading it was
t ereupon moved by Councilman Mueller, and seconded by Councilman Osborne, that the minutes
ba approved as written. Motion carried.
