It was moved by Councilman Gleason that Councilman Carrol's motion be ammended to the
ffect that the City Attorney and Conmittee designated, prior to presentation of the ordinan<
rovided for in said motion, make a study of the advisability of increasing rates or of
roviding a greater percentage of tax monies for operation of this service. Upon Councilman
enedetto's second of the motion to amend, a roll call vote was taken thereon, and all six
ouncilmen present voting in the affirmative, motion visa declared carried.
Roll call vote was taken upon the original motion of Councilman Carroll and upon an
ffirmative vote by each of the councilmen present this motion was declared carried.

No further business appearing for consideration by the Council at this time, it was
ved by Councilman Carroll, and seconded by Councilman Sullivan, that the council do now
journ. Lotion carried.

THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port ''Townsend, Washington, met in regular session this
Oth day of May, 1947, at 7:30 o'clock P.L:., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall,
ayor F. E. Anderson presiding.
ROLL CALL.
Officers and "'embers noted present upon roll call were as follows: Mayor, H. E.
nderson; City Attorney, 71'. J. Daly; City Clerk, C. F. Christian; and Councilmen H. E.
lesson, Geo. J. Osborne, J. Y. Carroll, Geo. F. Mueller and Ralph H. Steele; Dennis
ullivan arriving during session.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS SESSION.
The minutes of the nreviousfsession were read, and following such reading it was
oved by Councilman Steele, and seconded by Councilman Carroll, that the minutes be
pproved as written. Motion carried.
Sullivan arrives.
Councilman Sullivan arrived during the reeding of the minutes of the previous session
nd took part in the proceedings thereafter.
REPORT OF OFFICERS
City Treasurer.
The monthly report of the City Treasurer for the month of April, 1947, was presented
d read and was referred to the Committee on Finance and Claims.
Water Superintendent.
The monthly report of the pater Superintendent for the month of April, 1947, was
esented and read and was referred to the Committee on 71*ater and Drainage.

Fire and Light Committee.
A written report from the Committee on Fire and Light, relative to the bids on constr-
tion of a new fire hall was presented and read as follows:
To the Mayor and City Council;
Gentlemen:
Upon careful investigation into building cost and bids for the contemplated Fire
11 construction, it is our conviction that the city would not benefit by the acceptance
any of the bids tendered. We therefore recommend that all bids be rejected and the
rtified checks be returned to the bidders. '1e feel that A. different approach to the
thods to be followed in the construction of this building will result in considerable
vings to the city.

1 It was moved by Councilman Mueller, and seconded by Councilman Carroll, that all bids
tendered for construction of the new Fire Hall be rejected and that bid deposit be returned

BUILDING PERa.ITS.
Requests for building permits were presented, read and acted upon as follows:

Gentlemen: I hereby make application for a permit to redecorate the interior, to put
new sheet metal on existing marquee, and to repaint and decorate the exterior front of the
building known as the Townsend 'Theatre.
All seats end rugs will be new and of a good quality.
It is also my intention to operate this theatre in a business like manner,
and to maintain clean and sanitary rest rooms.

An invitiation from the Department of Political Science and the Bureau of Public

Administration to attend the inauguration of Raymond Bernard Allen as President of the
University of 7�ashington, to be held on flay 22nd to 24th, was read by the City Clerk
and the Mayor urged that any member of the city administration who might be able and would
care to attend this function.
