UNFINISHED AND NEW BUSINESS:
Re: Street Light Project Supplies.
Councilmen Gleason reported that investigation had shown that due to material shortages
it would be advisable to order: -certain of the materials required for the city's street light
ing project at this tine to insure delibery when needed. Standards had been ordered because
ofthis condition, and, as earliest expected delivery of luminaires would be at least thirty
weeks it would be necessary to order now for delivery at approximately the same time as the
standards. Other items such as relays and conduit were biting received in small amounts only
and it would be necessary to accumulate a sufficient quantity over a period of time.
Councilman Gleason moved that the city clerk be directed to order materials as outlined
In such quantities as would be required, at this time for future delivery, as available.
This motion was seconded by Councilman Sullivan, and, upon roll call vote all seven council-
men present voted in the affirmative and motion visa declared carried.
Re: Street Name signs.
Councilman Carroll stated that in his recent travels he had had occasion to notice the
use of steel signs showing names of streets in various cities, and felt that use of such
signs visa of great benefit to the public.
Following short discussion, it was moved by Councilman Carroll that the city clerk
determine the cost to the city of the street signs and standards necessary to proponly mark
the city streets. This motion visa seconded by Councilman Osborne, and carried by voice vote
of the members present.
Two Hour Parking to be enforced.
Councilman Steele moved that effective enforcement of the two hour parking limit mn
certain streets, as provided by ordinance, be renewed, with an intermittent rather than a
scheduled check of parked cars in the area; such enforcement to begin i.ay 1, 1947, and the
required signs therefor be in place prior to such date. This motion was seconded by Council
man Osborne and carried by voice vote of the members present.
Re: Marking of parking spaces, etc.
The subject of marking off individual parking spaces along the curbs in the business
areas was introduced and discussed, and City Attorney Daly advised the council that he
had recommended that the Chief of Police pay a visit to the City of Mount Vernon, Which city
probably had the most aggravated narking problem, and make a study of the method of street
marking used in that city.
Councilman Carroll stated that investigation had showed about 90% of the cities to be
using parking meters for control of parking, and that inquiries of the Police Departments
of such cities indicated initial objection to such motersr3which disappeared when the
advantages became evident to the public.
Other subjedts discussed at this time were the removal of trees from parking strips
and participation by the city departments in the observance of a "clean up week".
Re: Logging in i'latershed.
City Attorney Daly reported that inquiry into the matter of possible logging of timber
in the Big Cuilcene water shed had determined that timber to be logged would in no way affec
this city's water supply; being well below the area from which the city's supply was taken.
Re: Bicycles on Sidewalks.
Councilman Benedetto asked if city ordinance prohibited riding of bicycles on the side-
walks, and „ upon assurance that it did, moved that stricter enfocement of this provision be
made. Councilman Osborne seconded the motion and upon taking of voice vote motion was
declared carried.
Re: Ordinance for mett contnol.
