It was moved by Councilman Mueller that the lease requested by Mr. Weatharr.ax be grants
conditioned upon the payment, in advance, of a yearly rental fee in the amount of $10.00,
therefor. This motion was seconded by Councilman Gleason; and upon call for voice vote the
motion was carried.
From Assocn. of 'Nash. Cities. -
A circular letter from the office of the Association of Washington Cities, relative to
arrangements for the association convention to be held in Port Angeles on May 15 and 16,
was read by the city clerk, who then requested all who planned to attend the session to so
signify, in order that proper reservations could be made at the earliest opportunity.
ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS.
Union Oil Co. Franchise Ordinance.
A proposed ordinance granting to Union Oil Co. of California certain rights, which was
read in full for the first reading at the last regular session and is incorporated, in full,
in the minutes thereof, was presented and read in full for the second reading at this time.
It was moved by Councilman Gleason, and seconded by Councilman Steele, that the third
rending be by title only. Upon roll call vote, all six councilmen present voted in the
affirmative and motion wns declared carried.
Third Reading and Passage.
The ordinance under consideration visa read by title only for the third reading, and it
was thereupon moved by Councilnan Sullivan, and seconded by Councilman Mueller, that the
ordinance do now pass, and that the Union Oil Co. be required to bear the cost of publicatio .
Upon Roll call vote, all six councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was
declared carried.
Benton Street Vacation ordinance.
A form of ordinance providing for the vacation of a portion of Benton Street as approve
by the council at a previous session was presented and read in full at this time for the
first reading, as follows:

AN ORDINANCE of the City of Port Townsend vacating that portion of Benton Street
between the Southerly line of v.ater Street and the Northerly line
of Front Street.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT 'TW.1;SEND DO ORDAIN AS FOLLUNS:
Section 1. That that portion of Benton Street in the Original Townsite of the
City of Port Townsend between the Southerly line of later Street and the Northerly
line of Front Street, be, and the same is hereby vacated.
Section 2. That this ordinance be published once in the Port Townsend Leader
to be in force and take effect from and after five (5) days from date of such
publication.

It was moved by Councilman Steele, and seconded by Councilman Benedetto, that the firs
reading be considered as the second reading, and that the third reading be by title only.
Upon roll call vote, all six councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was
declared carried.
Third Reeding and Passage.
The proposed ordinance was read by title only for the third reading, and following_, sucl
reading it was moved by Councilman Gleason, and seconded by Councilman Benedetto, that the
ordinance do now pass provided the petitioner assume the cost of publication of same. Upon
roll call vote, all six councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared
carried.
Re: Meat inspection ordinance.
Mayor Anderson stated that he had received a copy of a recommended form of ordinance
relative to inspection of meats and slaughtering, and referred same to the Committee on
Health for consideration.
Olympic Health Dept. Sanitarian Donald Llorrison explained the purposes of this type of
ordinance and outlined the dangers arising from lack of proper control of slaughtering and
sale of meats; and a question and answer discussion followed Mr. Morrison's remarks, for a
short period.

Re: Impounding oT Dogs.
Councilman Sullivan reported that he had nothing further to report upon the matter of
tw t}u � ri+r adequate facilities for the impounding of unlicensed dogs, but suggested that Dr. Adams,
local vererinarian, who was present might have sbme information on the subject to offer.
Upon invitation of the Mayor, Dr. Adams advised the council that it was customary in
many small cities and towns for a veterinary to act as puundmaster. Costs of impounding
� a were paid by the owner upon claiming of the dog, and unclaimed dogs could be sold, given
away, or destroyed as circumstances might dictate to be best in each instance.
Dr. Adams appointed Pound Luster.
Following short discussion of the above subject, Mayor Anderson stated that he, at th
I' time, made the appointment of Dr. Adams as City Poilnd faster.
gM xW g Re: Marking of Parking Spaces.
I Councilman Benedetto introduced the matter of marking off individual spaces for the

parking of vehicles along curbs in the business areas of the city, and stated that such
*r a� marking should, in his opinion, be made at the earliest possible time. Considerable
discussion of the subjedt ensued, but no official action was taken by the council.
